My thread is basically to ask what all eatables thing we can put in freezer, not in refrigerator section, and i really don't know which all thing we can put in it, i thought you all smarties will share what normally you store in here, but seems many has got weird ideas which they wanna try in there home and are not able to do so till date :|.

I heard about putting meat, but processed meat would be a good option which is not available here, Just wanna confirm can we store pizza's also in the freezer section ??, defreeze it using oven after 2-3 days and eating it :D

Also, i don't think it will be a good idea to store fresh fruits and veggies there, also can someone clarify which section will be much better to put cooked rice and veggies- freezer or refrigerator ??
I am assuming you are really lost here..so a honest reply: It depends on the star rating of your freezer. Most Fridges in India will have a 4 star rating, meaning it will have a section where the Temp will be -18 Deg. Cel. For a 4 star rated freeze,r you can store foods which have already been frozen(@ the supermarket/manufacturer) for a long time(can be up to 3 months) without loosing its taste. For a 5 Star rated freezer, you can store any food item, even if it is not already frozen. For e.g. you can store cooked veggies/dal etc. (bring them down to room Temp. before storing). They will taste fresh even after 3 months. You can store meat as well yes, but depends on the stat rating. If its five star you can get fresh meat/fish rom butcher, use what you like and put the remaining in the freezer. If its a 4 star rated, then you should only store meat/fish which is already in a frozen state. Last but not the least....better start a new thread in the show off section!

how is star rating concerned with what u can store?? sorry for being naive.. but isn't star rating used for measuring the power consumed by the device?

Hahaha....... *Star* rating decides temp. in Freezer :hail: :hail:

Now you will say, Moonlight decides temp. of our home

More from the gujju, we have a chest freezer thingy like the ones stores have for icecream. That goes at a much lower temp. than your normal freezer. I think you should read the spec. sheet and not look at the star rating :bleh:

More on storage, we also store pizza sauce, and red and green chutney to make bhel.
Another is get lots of lemons, get all the juice out and fill it in ice trays. Easy to make lemonade after that, just take some water and chuck 1 cube into it.

The BEE star rating is for determining the efficiency of the appliance.

A lower star rated appliance will have low EER (energy efficiency ratio). Higher EER = more stars = more savings. :P

BEE Star rating what you see normally displayed outside on a sticker is for determining energy efficiency only. But there do exist a star rating for freezers as well, depending on how low the freezer temperature could go.

From wiki

  • [∗] : min temperature = −6 °C (21 °F). Maximum storage time for (pre-frozen) food is 1 week
  • [∗∗] : min temperature = −12 °C (10 °F). Maximum storage time for (pre-frozen) food is 1 month
  • [∗∗∗] : min temperature = −18 °C (−0 °F). Maximum storage time for (pre-frozen) food is between 3 and 12 months depending on type (meat, vegetables, fish, etc.)
  • [∗[∗∗∗] : min temperature = −18 °C (−0 °F). Maximum storage time for pre-frozen or frozen-from-fresh food is between 3 and 12 months

some of the old fridges used to have the stars on the front door. The filled-strs indicate the rating against the full-five stars as in the on-line reviews.

Current star rating indicates BEE Rating only. (= energy efficiecncy rating, valid for a year)

Wish to buy a BIIIIIIGGGG fridge one day.

Damn our TVs are becoming big, Fridge is becoming big, even phones are becoming big but house is getting smaller for all this.

Most imported fridges(99.99%) don't have a BEE rating.

However electricity is not that big a deal. I moved from a 5 star 260L whirlpool to a 660L French Door Hitachi with no printed rating and a 4 star freezer. The electricity bill increased by around 150 bucks.

When one can spend upwards of a lac for a fridge, 150 bucks a month extra doesn't hit much :P.

Sorry to you and everyone else, my bad. I did not explain it clearly. You guys are Referring to BEE rating - this deals with the energy efficiency of the appliance as you all have pointed out. I am referring to the star rating of the freezer. Yes, freezers also have star ratings. Most home refrigerators have a 4 star rated freezer nowadays (except for the old single door ones). Very few will have 5 star rating - This was when the two door tall boy Refrigerators entered in the market. But nowadays I have never seen any brand advertise this. Please see thee Wiki link below and scroll down to the section "Temperature zones and ratings". The Wikipedia page does not mention the 5 star rated freezers, probably that was a marketing gimmick by some brands in the 90s. Sorry once again for not being able to explain this nicely in the original post. The Link: Refrigerator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yes, true these Japanese brands are very power efficient. A 1.0T sharp inverter based A/c for e.g. consumes only 800 Watts during 1st run time and 600 Watts thereafter once the set temperature is reached and it does not has a BEE rating! But smartly that have provided two LED indicators to tell how much it is consuming (800W/600W).

True, my old BPL Double Door used have 4 stars on the freezer door! Of course I never understood what it was for then, thought it was related to the price! It was a 185Ltrs Fridge and was bought for some 17k iirc and it was costly as compared other 165Ltrs model available those days.
