Hello All,

I am using TP-LINK TD-W8961ND (ADSL modem and wi-fi router) and using bsnl broadband with it. I purchased it 5 months back and all these while it was working seamlessly.

Since 4 days I had a problem for which now I think its hardware problem.

The modem keeps on restarting itself continuously even with the telephone line not connected.
Frequency: Not measured but I guess its less than a minute.
Since it frequently restarts, I am not able to go into the modem webpage and get the required status.

After trying to access so many times, Luckily I got the logs once:
1/1/2000 0:0:8> SNMP TRAP 0: cold start
1/1/2000 0:0:8> main: init completed
1/1/2000 0:0:8> netMakeChannDial: err=-3001 rn_p=80544b08

1/1/2000 0:0:24> netMakeChannDial: err=-3001 rn_p=80544b08

can anybody help me in finding what has gone wrong with the modem by looking at the logs ?

The modem was purchased in Jainex, S.P Road (Blore) and is under warranty.[DOUBLEPOST=1369028460][/DOUBLEPOST]I also tried with Hardware RESET of the modem using the button at the back of it. No luck yet !

check the power button on back.i have seen it getting loose so it may seem like it is pushed but in reality it is not.hard press the power button 3-4 times & make sure you hear some kind of click sound confirming that button has been pushed completely.

If immediate replacement is given, you can RMA it, but TPLINK takes 10-14 days to replace product. So its best to re-flash firmware and check...

Could be a faulty AC adapter. I've seen a flaky adapter unable to sustain the current draw needed by the router and this causes the router to restart within a few seconds. If you've got another adapter of the same voltage/socket and same or higher current rating, you can swap it out and check.

Exactly what I thought yesterday!!
^ If OP is using any 3rd party adapter, then it could also be a problem..
I am using the stock TP-Link adapter.

Also to check what was faulty, I removed the phone line and just kept modem in idle condition. Surprisingly, the modem was restarting and I could make this out by seeing at the lights which when resets switches on ADSL and LINK lights together.

So what shall I do now ? Somewhere I read there is no TP-link service centre in India. So shall I give it back the dealer from whom I purchased and he will look after for replacement ? Or shall i give 1 more try with different adapter of same ratings ?

Try a different adapter if you have one. Might save you the hassle if it works out fine.

did you tried my suggestion?

Yes I tried your suggestion and I am pretty sure that the problem isn't due to a faulty switch of the modem.
Also, I can hear a very tiring "buzz" from the stock adapter during the modem boot phase as well as restarts.

But I am afraid to try out with different adapter :)
Stock adapter spec: 9V @ 850mA
Spare adapter spec: 10V or 12V (don't remember exactly) @ 1200mA (Transcend 2TB external hard disc power supply adapter)

^ yes it matches the spec mentioned in their website.

I have given back to the vendor. He will get in touch with TP link and sort the issue and get it rectified. ETA: 1 week.
I am using my old bsnl ethernet modem for now.
