Part 2 of PC upgrade for Witcher 3. (Actually, my old monitor started dying).

It is a Samsung UN40JU6500. 40". 3840x2160. Supports 4:4:4 (i.e. no subsampling) over HDMI 2.0 at 60hz, so works perfectly as a PC monitor.

The model you listed is the PB278Q which is not 4k. The 4k version is called PB287Q. Fairly good monitors but at that screen size with 4k, you will find yourself using windows DPI scaling. Windows 7's scaling is not that great. Should be ok on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

It basically comes down to size and cost. There are good 4k monitor options at 27inch and 28inch. If you are comfortable with the size, they are a very good deal. (But I personally didn't want to downsize from a 30" 16:10 to 28" 16:9.)

There are good 32" 16:9 monitors. They are rather expensive though.

A good compromise at this time is the one I went with. Philips 4065UC is another option

They are the Yamaha HS50M studio monitors.

Depends on what connection you want to use. 4k 60hz is only supported on two connections.

1) DisplayPort 1.2a - any GPU with this output should support driving monitors at 4k/60Hz.

2) HDMI 2.0 - Very few cards have this right now, just the GTX 960/970/980 and the Titan X.

I am in the US but Samsung is going to be sold worldwide. It is the follow up to Samsung's HU series. It supports HDMI 2.0 on one port. No DisplayPort.

Ah, I see...hows something like 40HU7000 compared to this, that is what is available here right now..I could wait a little if JU is much better. Also, I am little worried up staying so close to such a big TV 10 hours a day or more, would it be bad for eyes and neck? ( compared to say a 28" 4K Monitor )

The main improvement the JU series has is that it has 4:4:4 chroma subsampling support. This is important if you plan to use it as a PC monitor. Most older TVs don't support this because it isn't needed for game systems, Blu-Rays, TV, etc.

As for the size and distance, it isn't a problem. There are many people who use multiple monitors. Think of this as two (or 4) large monitors kept side by side but without any bezels. I usually have all open windows split into left and right side. When I am gaming or watching a movie, I just lean back in my chair (or move it back a foot or so) and I have one large single screen.

Given I will be using these with rMBP 15, I am inclining towards PHILIPS 4065UC ( although it supports 4k 60hz only over the display port 1.2 )

The JU6470 and JU6670 look like they are the same as the JU6500 and JU6700 in the US. They only have HDMI 2.0 though. I don't know if there are any DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 conversion cables/adapters available. So the Philips 4065UC might be your only choice if you want a 40" 2160p VA panel.

Now the Philips has a couple of issues to keep in mind for your use case (Photoshop). First is that it doesn't have perfectly square pixels. Second, sRGB mode locks the monitor to 100% brightness. And finally, there are some wake from sleep issues when the source is a Mac - though this might be the case with other monitors too.

I guess that sRGB lock can be removed by any software update if Philips decides so. Sleep issue could be troublesome to deal with though..but I don't see many options if I want to use 4k 60Hz with a rMBP at ~40 inch screen size.

Could you guys please confirm if Samsung UA40JU6470 (http://bit.ly/1LhdQFm) and/or Samsung UA40JU6670 (http://bit.ly/1LWiPyQ) can work at 4k@60hz with 4:4:4 chroma ?
All the reviews I see are either for Samsung UN40JU6500 (USA version) (confirmed 4k@60hz 4:4:4) or Samsung UE40JU6740 (EU version) or UE40JU6670 (EU version) (confirmed 4k@60hz 4:4:4)

There is no information available if I can use these two models as a computer monitor with 4k@60hz 4:4:4 (Samsung UA40JU6470 (http://bit.ly/1LhdQFm) and/or Samsung UA40JU6670 (http://bit.ly/1LWiPyQ) )

The only reason I will be buying either of these two will be for a computer monitor that can do 4k@60hz 4:4:4

P.S. I have GTX970 which can do this on HDMI 2.0
