Car & Bike Avenger 220 Street or something else for my needs?

I keep travelling at least twice or thrice every month from my work place to my home town. Distance is around 270 kms one way. Right now, I rely on crowded govt. buses, which take around 7.5 hours for a one way travel. I will need to make the frequent trips at least for the next 2.5 yrs, so there's no way around it.

Recently, I've been thinking about traveling the distance by a bike. I should be able to cut the travel time by at least half. Roads are near perfect for almost the entire distance. I guess a cruiser like bike, with more stress on comfort, is important for my needs. As of now, the only bike that feels suitable is the Avenger 220 Street (am not really keen on the Cruise variant). Are there any alternatives for the same? I wouldn't be able to spend over 1 lakh on the bike.

BTW, does my plan really make sense? Around 550 kms spread over two separate days and once in 10 days is doable, right? I love riding, although I haven't done such a distance previously. I don't have a car (or the budget for one), and don't know to drive one too, in case someone suggests buying a car.

Bikes are good for short distance. Over long distance you will be stressed and its also dangerous on the highways. It is possible with a few breaks but you will be plenty sore for the first 5-10 times and tired everytime.

270 in a day is easily doable especially if you are using the National Highways, gear up though. I would recommend a twin cylinder bike (should have lower vibes) but I don't think there are any in your budget.

I love riding bikes and good roads is a luxury. But still doing 270kms almost 6 times a month not the best idea. Also bikes cant be driven in all seasons over such long distances.
Why not a small car. equal comfort. better protection from weather elements and other highway issues. and some extra space as bonus.
car in resale will cost you only a little more than the bike.

Hmm.. So confused. A small car should be ideal, but I'm in no position to afford one. In addition to the initial investment, there is also the maintenance and fuel expenses, which will definitely be a considerable amount every month, especially for a used one. So no car for now.

My present mode of commute by govt buses works out cheapest, but very tiring by the time I reach home. On a bike, the biggest concern would be safety. Also, as mentioned above, it might not be possible to ride in all weather conditions, although there's hardly a few weeks of rain in this part of India every year. It's only varying degrees of heat the rest of the time. I might have to continue using buses I guess, if nothing works out.

I own an avenger 220. No doubt the bike is very comfortable and I think its the best one out there for long rides. BUT, driving for 270km will be neck and back breaking, risky and tiring. Better invest in a car like alto etc.

Car would be your best bet considering the number of trips you are going to have and also considering safety issue

Also you can have used cng car which would be cost efficient for you

Get a second hand car. Whatever comes in a lac.
Even if it is a 8-10 yr old car in good condition, get it.

The day you fall off your bike or have an accident, or back pain issues = this 8 yr odd old car will seem like a gods gift to you.

That much kilometers after driving bike will cause pain in lower back and will be very, very dangerous diving a bike. I have driven myself 200 kms up and down 200 kms same day, totaling on 400+ km on the same day on Bajaj Discover 100 cc. 200 kms took about 4 to 5 hours depending upon mood of driving and how much fast.

I have also driven 1300 km, took about 27 hours on Tata nano car, which was very comfortable; took rest in night between 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Car will be very comfortable for such a long journeys.

Yeah.. The weird idea is off my head now. :p Thanks all for talking sense.

Why is a bus tiring if you're sitting? Try private buses.
You should try government buses some day. They are too cramped to sit comfortably. Add to that the crowd, and the blazing hot weather right now. It'll sap the energy out of you real quick. Private buses are better, but don't suit my timings. :)
