Car & Bike Formula 1 2016 Discussion thread

Spa delivered as always. Massive crash by Mangussen, good to see he walked away only with an ankle sprain. Nico and Ric cruised to the end. Hamilton and Alonso were helped by the carnage in front of them.

VES is getting involved in a lot of incidents, which could be written off as youthful enthusiasm, but considering his comments that he purposely wrecked kimi's race as payback for the 1st lap incident is worrying.

on to Monza

That was a brilliant race at Singapore, Nail biting finish. Mercs weren't all that dominant and Some fantastic battle all through. Nico back in the lead of the championship. I think he really has a shot at winning this year.

The races this year have definitely been better than the last few years but nothing to write about. I don't know why but that is how I feel.

1 thing is for certain with Ferrari loosing James Allison and Renault getting their act together in the engine department Ferrari is done for next year.

McLaren seem to have a good chassis and if the new system allows Honda to catch up in engine development then Ferrari will have another thorn in the eye.

Ferrari had an advantage over Red Bull at the start of the year and reliability issues and fumbled strategies didn't see them capitalize on it and now I don't think they will be able to get ahead of Red Bull that easily.

Mercedes and their golden duo are dominating irrespective of the track and don't let the Singapore result make you think that Red Bull has caught upto Mercedes. The Mercedes generally struggles on such tracks and I think Malaysia might see Red Bull being as competitive as they are over here but seriously the Mercedes has so much in reserve that the only way they can loose is if they have a major brain fart moment.

Among the others... Force India vs Williams is the only interesting battle and as much as I hate Vijay Mallya for Kingfisher Airlines I would like to see Force India take that place. Not because I believe it is an Indian team cause despite being owned by an Indian as it is the old Jordan team in disguise but because even as Jordan they used to try and punch above their weight and they continue to do so with a way smaller budget. People always vote for the underdog :cat:

What a rollercoaster of a race. Nico getting shunted on lap 1, then fighting back to P4. I loved the ballsy pass on Kimi. And then lewis' engine blows :O. Ric and Ves had a awesome clean scrap that landed up deciding the race. Nico with 23 points and 5 races remaining. Solid drives from Alonso and palmer as well.

Danny boy is going to kill someone with the Shoey

Very very interesting race. Lots of wheelbanging. Lewis being unlucky. McLaren were pretty competitive and got the positions based on performance and not luck. Good to see them competing with the other teams.

Let's see if this was because of the track suiting their car or Honda engines becoming better!

No one saw the Japanese GP?

Pretty good race with Lewis fumbling at the start and Ferrari getting a brain freeze.

You are a bong? :flushed: Hi 5 Bro. I rushed to take a bath post race and then off to the Pandal for Pushpanjali fortunately there was 1 left before Sandhi pujo started.
Hi5 dude.
My friends forced me to go watch a movie in the morning and then we went pandal hopping. So missed it. :-/

Watched it ... But again not much to write about. Dont know why Ferrari didn't call Vettel in a couple of laps before. Its stupid to threaten the driver when your rest of the team is not at par. Its their failure to give both the drivers a good car and then plan proper strategies to help them gain podiums.
Lewis tweeted about being a world champ and moving on (about the Max Verstappen late braking issue in last lap) .... What a show off from a guy who is no less than a crying baby on other accounts. I think he has realized that this year the team has made its mind to favor Rosberg over him. So its better he accepts that and moves on.

#JustSaying.
Massa is retiring. So should Vettel switch to Williams? They surely look as good as Ferrari currently with the advantage of the Mercedes engine. True that Vettel still has a year long contract for next year with the red horse. But just saying. What if he switched to Williams? It couldn't be worse for sure. If anything it will only get better.

Williams don't have the budget to develop the way Ferrari can. And on top of that they will have to pay Vettel's salary too. So this is practically not feasible.
Williams had a great car last year. But not this year. They have fallen back gradually and now are comparable to Force India.

Ferrari has done this twice in a row I think. Previously with Kimi they pitted him despite the fact that he was ahead of Lewis just to safeguard him at the end and left it for him to overtake Lewis on track which was impossible unless Lewis made another mistake. Track position was crucial and Lewis pitting meant putting him 20+ seconds behind Kimi. Now if the rate of Lewis catching him was high and the field behind then depending on the gap and laps remaining pitting him would make sense. There of course was always the risk of a safety car but Nico went with and came out on top. They should realize that a car not only has to catch up but also overtake your car and Kimi is good at defending and on a street track passing is not that easy.

With Vettel - pitting him early was a must and they should not have waited that long or at least reacted immediately. They gave away every advantage they had and putting him on a faster tyre will hardly help considering the number of laps that were remaining. So even if Vettel did get ahead the Mercedes would retake that position later on. So there was no need to do those glory laps in lead by giving away the potential podium.

Another thing that is to be noted is that Ferrari has little to no track position awareness, Red Bull are brilliant at it and Mercedes are not that bad but Ferrari boys always manage to come out behind traffic which shows that their strategy department is very lacking.

Lewis is a good driver but has never been my favorite driver and I don't think ever will be because of his over all attitude. He and Nico are both bad loosers if the other one wins the race but Lewis goes the extra mile slamming the team and spouting non sense and once even leaked team information. Nothing he does makes him any more endearing than he is at present. His pretentious crowd appreciation, disrespecting media by playing on mobile during a press conference or crying about it saying they are targeting him. Overall a very unlikable character who is full of himself but I don't watch F1 for role models or fashion icons so I don't care what he does off track.

Williams is not a Works team and unless they are like RBR with respect to Renaults work team I don't see him succeeding or going there. Williams not long ago was in the same situation as Sauber is in right now but they still don't have the financial support like the other Works teams or RBR. Vettel I think will not go to another team to rebuild it and win. He has already taken that chance with Ferrari and at the moment it is not working out but 2017 with all it's regulation changes might shake things up a bit and Ferrari might find itself ahead of the pack. So changing teams at this point makes little sense at this point.

Nice to see a bit of a change though, gets boring seeing a Vettel or Schumacher winning every year. Go Rosberg!

The last time Schumi won was in 2004 and Vettel in 2013. Anyways get your point. But only changing the champion is not making the sport interesting..... This year tooo the races were pretty mundane with even the oldest of the F1 fans losing interest in watching the entire race.

An average race at Austin. Nico did what he needed to do, Ferrari were Ferrari. Alonso and Sainz gave us some excitement at the end.

Is it possible to add a poll to this thread? If yes, how?

Boring race last week, should've slept after a first few laps..

What poll do you want to add?

I am really not impressed with Rosberg's recent performances. He is just trying to play safe but you never know when a problem may strike and this strategy of finishing second and not being aggressive enough. If he does win he will be more like a Paper Champion just like his dad was who is said to have lucked into winning his championship back in the 80s,
