1800 with 50mbps speed is both cheap and fast, cheaper then u.s infact,

this guy obviously knows nothing about ISP, he failed to specify a city
its all relative imo. 1800 for internet every month plus taxes isnt exactly cheap for 90% of indian population.

lets agree to disagree. even in metros there would be a very very tiny %age of ppl who pay >1700+ taxes for internet

Here in Mumbai, there is an issue of competition. Wherever the Seven Star ISP is there or at least in certain areas, there seems to be no competition.

Cheapest I've heard is Mach 1 giving 100mbps UL for 700rs. I think the reliability is more dependent on the type of network, so as they're FTTH they should be fine I guess. Spectra's also giving 100mbps for 1800 in Gurgaon.

In Delhi, local ISPs are matching plans with Excitel, who's now giving 20mbps for 800rs. Excitel could give better plans for 1000+, but it only gives fiber to node and through LCO, which would in cases also make it less reliable. Where I had Excitel before, another LCO is offering 50mbps UL for 1100 FTTBoard. That, or a 200-300gb fup seems to be the upper limit. But maybe putting FUP will cause people to DL more.

Which place are you talking about which gives that competitive internet plans compared to excitel in Delhi ?
I'm interested, excitel has lot of presence in South Delhi but not yet in sarojini nagar according to their customer service but on map it shows that it is like 4km to my area and their customer service has no idea when they will Expand

mach1 does not give 100 mbps - its YMMV depending on the traffic at any given time. My friend had one and when we did the speedtest, we barely got 3-4 Mbps. However, the speed from your computer to Mach1 servers is 100mbps, which is good, as the backbone might be fibre!

The FTTB provider is Airnet in Munirka and surrounding areas. All LCOs there have shifted to Excitel like plans, and I've also seen same in surrounding areas. I've also heard of other places and providers giving similar plans, such as Verivoz, DDC, and tripleplay.

That's really low. I guess the 80% speed rule is to ISP server only. Also if they're reselling 2mbps for 100mbps(minimum) you should probably get 20mbps minimum. That's one thing I liked about Excitel, there was literally zero speed drop except due provider faults.
