Iphone se 2020 launched at Rs 42500

and you’ll be left with a shit software and camera all your life.

former iPhone hater here, but after several Android flagships and switching to iPhone this year, ios has come a long way now and the camera is really so much better than any phone i’ve used

but yeah there are people who don’t use the camera much like my brother who has switched to a oneplus after trying out 11 for a while.

anyway, at 42k it’s not worth it. just saying comparing a redmi and an iphone is so wrong at many levels. the experience is drastically different.

I am a former iPhone hater who used to laugh at people owning iPhone (I was naive then, still am little). This is when iPhone 3GS came and I was using ZTE Blade. I know android phones have come very far but in 2011 I bought my wife iPhone 4 which was the first iPhone in the family and I fell in love with it. Next year in 2012, I bought the 4S for my self and have been a loyal iPhone user (yes you can call me sheep). Today, except my brother, everyone in my family and in laws are iPhone users.

All the good things I hear about the iPhone 11 pro from my friends, Makes me Meh about the other phones that are in the market.

But the pricing is really a downer. EOD, Apple is not for everyone.

Iphones are really good. No doubt about that. And if you own an iPad or macbook then a really good companion device. I would like to own one just for that reason alone. Handoff!

However they are simply too expensive and not justified at all for me. I have the iPhone 6 lying unused with me and I sometimes boot it up and use it as my primary phone for a few days. The battery is ****ed up now so can't use for long. So I get back to my one plus 5T in a couple of days, which is a phenomenal phone for the price I paid. It's been 2.5 years and it's still as good as new. And I managed to get it at a discounted price of 24K back then. So it's simply the best phone that I have used. 800 rupees per month mileage is an icing.

But yeah I haven't gathered the courage to buy a new iphone after I dropped the 6, paying 65k for a phone is just overkill. I would rather buy an iPad pro or macbook pro with some more money.

PS: I am in awe of MacBooks and hate using windows laptops. Have the MacBook 12. Didn't understand the hype until I used one.

the Apple ecosystem is amazing.

Gone are the times when we used to download every stuff from the internet be it songs movies or anything. also ios isn’t too restricted since a couple of versions, so i don’t find an advantage having an Android phone with me.

and well android is fast, but it lacks the elegance of ios, where everything feels so polished to touch.
and macbooks although expensive, the user experience is simply brilliant, i love their hardware design/build. immediately became a fan after buying one in 2015 the retina model. oh and the touchpad.

iphones aren’t worth it here though. not at all.

How much does it cost in India? I live with a shitty Samsung ( A something) phone after loosing the awesome Oneplus 5T, 400 USD seems very reasonable to me ( former Apple slave, still love and use Logic on an iMac at home, Apple is still the king for home/ small small music producer, Windows DAWs are very expensive and that Logic remote for ipad/ iphone is simply superb) I may buy this only for the logic remote as the ipad air 2`s battery is dying.

I would really like you to elaborate that. I am seriously itching to get a macbook (mostly air as I am not a pro user) but am reluctant due to it not being windows and not sure how I will manage with it. On top of that, not having any USB ports etc is a downer (i know USB C is there) and I cannot just connect to say TV using HDMI etc without buying a dongle. But i really do want to get a macbook.
I am already invested in Apple Ecosystem with iPhones and Apple Watches in my family.

Get the new Air, or the 16 inch MBP...The best MacBook Apple ever made. Though expensive, it is still reasonable ( compared to fancy large Windows laptops from Asus)

16 inch is definitely not happening. Not that I wouldn't want to, but the cost is too prohibitive for me (not talking about affordability here). 2 Lakh Rupees, cannot see myself buying it. Even with the Air, I would probably question myself 100 times since it costs close to a lakh and comparing with some windows machine which would probably cost me 25K. I am not a heavy user of home laptop so that also needs to be considered.

Anyways, as of now, the only big personal expense I am looking at is the iPhone 12 or so when it is launched.

^^ Real words of wisdom. Everything you say is true. These are just tools. It's not about what you want, but what you need.

Anyone who boasts about apple ecosystem doesn't use more than 3-4 apps.
I don't browse internet without adblocker and apple restricts external add-ons in all their browsers.
I use open source youtube app called Newpipe which is 10 times better than its offical app and you won't get that on iOS.
No torrent client like flud for iOS.
Github has better and open source alternative to every other app and you don't have access to that too.

What you do get on iPhone is better camera and good thing I don't click photos of my food or anything I see outside so I can live without that.
New SE is embarrassing too, you pay 42k for 4.7" 720p LCD screen.

I just can't bring myself to get any of the newer variants of macbooks. Although the new macbook air looks really good, what's a bit off putting for me is its after warranty repairability. Anything happens to it post warranty, you'll be shelling a hefty amount as most of the components are soldered on to the motherboard.

Iphones on the other hand are so good that they are allowed to be boring.

I've used an iphone for most part of the life I've had a phone. They have, hands down, the best battery optimization and iphones, quite simply just work. No bells and whistles. They do what they do best and offer the best reliability and software support in the market.

the Apple ecosystem is amazing.

Although, here's what I have an issue with. When you get too deep in its eco system, you just have to buy whatever Apple sells to you. Looking back at the 13 & 15 inch mac pros, and bent ipad pros out of the box fiasco, apple not doing much to address the problems and rather going as far as calling them to be normal (to their credit, they did start a keyboard program but it wasn't introduced up until recently) is beyond me. But people still literally ended up buying whatever they had on their shelves because they didn't feel like they had much of a choice.

Apple may have one of the best products to offer but it would be too ambitious of me to say that they aren't without their faults.

when I was younger, I used to do all sort of shit on my phone and I could never stand an iPhone in my sight as my primary device. tbh I just got bored of it all

If I have to browse extensively, I use my MacBook, and I don't visit sites with a lot of ads since a while. and even if I do, I switch to chrome.

Newpipe? Better in what way? I used it a couple weeks back and the ui is really bad and what's the use case for such an app? If you want to skip ads, get YouTube premium if you are a heavy user.

Torrent? I rarely torrent now.

apple products are targeted at a different audience bud. If you still use a lot of pirated content, android is the way to go.

and no, taking pics of food and buildings and landscapes everything any proper flagship would do just as good as iPhone, but where they suck is at capturing people and videos. tbh this is the main reason I switched to an iPhone (lol).

definitely, they're not without their faults. but even with the small issues, they manage to provide the best experience altogether.

Who uses torrents anymore? For obscure movies/ books/ music etc. our russian site is the only one will need.
Another group is still dependent on torrent, those huge 50-80 GB Kontakt libraries are insanely expensive and crazy good. But these people are minorities and they have dedicated sites for those, where everyone contributes with whatever they buy legally.
Newpipe is a garbage app. Modded .ipa can be installed in non jailbroken devices too.
There are plenty of superb cracked Mac apps available, you must know where to look. The biggies like FCPX/ LPX cracked version behaves completely like legit apps without any restriction/ risk of malware.
Android app has improved considerably, but there's still nothing like Garage Band in Android. Those android DAWs are pathetic.
Logic remote itself is worth 100 bucks ( comes free with iPad/ iPhones, and works with cracked LPX) So the SE2 for a logic user is 300 bucks ( as with logic remote, SE2 is an insanely capable DAW controller, mixer, even a midi keyboard, drumpad, just think about the possibilities!!)
I'm not sure about gaming situation. But for productivity/ creativity Android/ Windows will never come close to iOS / OS X.
Former Apple slave, now slowly going back to Windows because of the port situation only.

If you are living on the cloud and streaming everything then you would hardly ever need the USB ports. The only time I use the USB port is to connect to an external monitor or a USB device, once in maybe 3 months (Fire TV dongle for my 10 year old TV). I knew what I was getting into back in 2016 and I was ok with it. The only gripe I had was that I could not charge and use USB at the same time, coz MB12 has only one port. I would be getting the new Dell monitors with USBC support soon as multi monitor setup = higher productivity. Just need to buy a bigger table first.

As for the apps, I did not find any application which was unavailable on the Mac. Every app that I wanted to use was there. William mentioned some apps but they are all there: Utorrent, Github, Filezilla, Tor Browser. Unless you use a very specialised low development budget freeware, you will find the apps. In fact some of the apps that I use and like, are only available on a Mac, like Sketch. I did however have this concern before buying the mac, so I researched the mac apps before deciding. I dont even use MS Office on a Mac now, not even the mac native productivity apps. Google docs is so much better and simpler.

I have never used an ad blocker even on Windows so I do not care for them. I simply don't visit sites with too many ads or I ignore them.

If you use a laptop a lot, then look no further. If you use it for design/development/content creation then you will like it even more. The build quality, the OS, the screen, the track pad, the gestures, everything just makes the whole package worth buying. Sure you can get an equivalent or better windows hardware if you pay a lakh. At the end of the day it will still be windows. If you use the laptop sparingly and only for content consumption, you will be better off with an iPad pro with the newly launched companion keyboard.

I mentioned about handoff, the convenience of handling SMS and phone calls from my laptop, when the phone is lying in some other corner of the house was amazing. The new sidecar feature is making me rethink my additional monitor decision. Its so much better to carry a portable monitor (an ipad) wherever I want and put up a wireless dual monitor setup even while travelling. Thats what @Muathaz meant when he said the Apple ecosystem is amazing.

I use both windows (office) and mac (personal) laptop everyday so its not that I have adjusted to the deficiencies of a mac. On the contrary I cringe having to use the windows laptop.

PS: did I tell mention you can unlock your macbook automatically when you are wearing your apple watch. To some it might be a gimmick but at the end of the day, its the finer details which add to the experience.

Your response reminded me of how exactly I was some 10 years back, but then I got matured.

Safari has a really good ad blocker that goes by the name Wipr which is available on mac as well. Apple doesn't restrict jack shit unless those blockers come from unofficial sources or doesn't follow the latest guidelines like content blocker on Safari 12. Also like someone above said just pay a little and get YouTube Premium instead of bypassing the official gate. Iphones for sure is not about specs, that A13 on 720p screams super performance which means it can be supported officially for at least 5 years or maybe more. Sure you have to pay for apps and hardware cost is expensive compared to competition but that's the only downside.

Off course I am not a sheep who likes everything and hate newer macs, still using 2015 macbook pro 13 and not planning to update it in near future.

This.

I'm using my 2015 mbpr too, but tbh it's gotten slow for me. like real slow. and I only use it for browsing and netflix/prime. Changed thermal paste last year too. guess the dual core old i5 is too weak for Catalina. it's a little better after installing Macs fan control , I'm guessing it has to do something with the throttling.

That has to be the stupidest comment.

There is no doubt that the pricing is way off for the Indian mkt. Do not blame the govt for raising the taxes, IF they are to entice more companies to manufacture/assemble stuff in India. Apple usually takes the full advantage of the ridiculous sentiment of 'owning an apple is a status symbol'/'my peer has it, m gonna get it too' mentality, which most (not all) iphone users go with. After about a year or so, they ll definitely start manufacturing this in India, just like how they do with other models, so they get a sustained sales figure after the initial hype of 'I picked this at launch.. (ie at full price!)' has fizzled out.

But, to cite the screen size and claim that being the reason that it is not value for money is as idiotic as it comes. A handset today generally is a phablet and not a phone per se. I have seen kids as young as 13 yrs old asking how do I manage a phone that has a 4.6 inched screen. The ye old mentality of being concerned only with 'kitna deti hai' while purchasing a car, and 'what is the screen size' while picking a phone is laughable. You wanna get the bang for buck due to these factors only, be honest about em. I have seen apple phone users slapping a 200 rupee local case on their prized posessions, and that too after haggling with the roadside seller. A phone which allows the user to reach the screen corner to corner while not being crazily dextrous is not a novel sentiment.

I am glad apple has released this phone. While it really is a good product and makes a lot of sense, I am fully hoping that copy cat desperate android phone makers will try to ape this and possibly, there will be a decent option (even if a midranger) that can be considered for next few yrs. Fingers crossed.

How old are you? Please don't take this question in negative light. I am seriously asking. Because I used to be you 10 years back and now I am in my late 30s. I am happy iphone user who wants something reliable and this phone serves me very well. Even so much that due to some circumstances, I am currently using iPhone 5S which is a 7 year old model. Yes it is slow but still works Damm great and serves my purpose.

Slow!! What do you use it for? I used a 2014 MBA till late 2019 for music production (LPX with izotope stuff), yes it was not blazing fast, but perfectly usable. Are you editing 4K videos in it?
