Storage Solutions External HDD unable to show on my computer

Untitled2.jpg

@nRiTeCh
See this is the status after 11 hr and 30min of scanning on stellar. Should I keep doing or turn off the laptop and remove to drive.

If no tool recognizes any partitions, then seems no luck moving further wasting time. It seems to be gone entirely..
Btw did get data back displayed any earlier partitions? Coz thats the only tool which can scan deep down south and display all shit irrespective of recovery.
Whats you loc btw?

After 17 Hours 0%. I aborted it now.
There was one and only partition in HDD that came from Seagate. External HDD didn't show up in my computer a bit since it has having issue. There is not a single file visible as you can see 0% in image.

So, here is the thing. I called seagate customer care and told every problem. They said you need to send this hard dirve to recovery centre of Netherlands. It's free by seagate from pickup to delivery. They will recover my data in 45-60 days and fix the hard disk. But the things is when it will ship to India. I need to pay 2-5k INR duty charges for that. Also they will provide an another hard drive from Chennai centre along with fixed backed to normal drive. Should I proceed? Is it safe to handle them to recover?

Woah If they are ready to recover lost data for FREE!!! definitely go for it. If you are getting FREE replacement cum free recovery. But only if your data was that dearer. Your call...
As far duty charges I doubt you have to pay any as it should be handled by Seagate just like Seasonic and Cooler masters. Still ask them again. Also, I think you have to ship your drive to Chennai to further forward it to Netherlands.
Also, ask why cant they do the recovery locally here in Chennai.

They said they only have one recovery centre in the world and that is in Netherlands. He said you don't need to pay anything but duty charges that would be 2000-5000 rupees depending on them. I am skeptical about it.

Unlike what these crooks in "data recovery" companies in India say, you can't really do platter level recovery in anything but a clean room. Yeah the hot steamy shower in the bathroom tricks will work for all of ten minutes.

Then again, every recovery doesn't involve directly accessing the platters or even having to open the drive. But once opened its as good as toast even if you manage to get data off it. And helium drives I'm not sure even the official Seagate center can handle.

Did not want to create a new thread for this 1 query, just wanted to confirm if the inability to eject an external hard disk safely can be an indication that it is going to fail?

I have 3 hard drives, 2 of them(1Tb) can be ejected with no issues but my WD Passport 4TB always fails to eject. I tried ejecting the HDD's on multiple computers and the passport always fails. The passport also seems to be spinning fully when not in use, I can read/write at full speed without errors, slowdowns or problems though.

The thing is I have 2 months warranty remaining on the drive, so will send it for RMA only if necessary because I will need to buy a new HDD to transfer the backed up files.

Yesterday I was taking some backup on my laptop and got same issue with passport. It would not eject and would be spinning all the time. With Seagate I didn't have that issue.

Are you going to trust the drive? Or
Could it be some issue with driver/windows?

My other hard disks were wd elements and sony portable btw.

Honestly I have no idea if that is a symptom of drive failure. I just hope not. I do keep 2 HDDs always to prevent data loss.

Thats somewhat occasional random external media behavior. Remember we all face the pen drive ejection issues and we simply would not bother and still unplug it.
And the next time windows will prompt us for scan and fix!

I’ve always had this issue with one of my drives but it seems a like it’s a problem with the firmware of the drive. Two drives I have are identically, just bought at different times and have different firmwares. It has that problem and hasn’t failed since I bought it 4 years ago. Either that or I’m just lucky.
