Android One little thing about battery.

We all know battery capacity worsens with time with charge/discharge cycles and laptop batteries usually die after 2 years. I am using a LG laptop (Gram, 2019) for close to a year now and LG had installed a software that stops battery charging at 80% ( I believe Lenovo, Asus etc. have similar software and few freeware are available for that purpose)
This small thing really helps in prolonging battery life considerably. My laptop`s battery life is still fantastic after close to a year and hopefully it will continue for another year or two.
However things are different with phones. I tend to charge them overnight and my last phone`s (Samsung A50) battery life degraded so much within a year that I had to buy another phone. Tried to find a similar app in Playstore but all the working ones ( as suggested by the comments) need root access.
Is there anything similar that can work without root? Now I am charging my phones during daytime and taking it out of the charger around 90%. This won`t be possible when normal life/work resumes.

Nice info. Now I never leave phone to be charged overnight. I charge it when I am awake + If i want to charge it overnight it is with MI charger that turns itself off after charging it fully :)

I think accubattery has a feature where it makes a notification sound when the battery reaches 85% (can be set higher or lower).

Another option. Set your phone to charge 2 hours before going to bed. Then you can check on phone while going to bed. If it's close to 90% shut it off.

Accu Battery app has a function where it will sound an alarm when a desired battery level is achieved. I have currently set it at 85%. With fast charging available for phones, one can actually do away with charging overnight. When you wake up, just put the phone on charging. By the time you are ready to go to work, phone would have easily charged to 80% when the alarm from Accu Battery go off.
Some Asus phones also come with this battery charging feature which can stop charging at 80%, just like laptops. Maybe there was some fault with your A50 battery, but frankly phone batteries last much much longer. I have a Huawei phone bought in Jan 2018 and always charged to full capacity with a fast charger (sometimes even twice a day due to very heavy usage) and it still has 75% battery capacity left if we go purely by SoT numbers and I have the option to get a new one installed for around 1100 bucks.

Lithium-ion batteries supposedly have the best life if kept between 20 and 80%. I.e. don't charge above 80 or let it drop below 20%.

It's all about stretching of the 'tendrils' and stress-fractures at the extremes.

I kinda agree with @rdst_1 - something is off with your battery. I still have a phone from 2017 (mi a1) which I am using but the battery has still not gone very bad.

Also why did you not replace the battery instead of changing the phone?

Agreed... something was wrong with the battery of that phone. Modern day phone batteries do not degrade so soon.

I have owned 2-3 mobile phones till now. I have the practice of charging it when it starts showing low battery, which in case of my Nokia 7 Plus is 15%. I then charge it to 100%. Battery works fine without issues, for years.

I was thinking, why don't phone manufacturers put a little sound to play when the charging has reached 100%, so that you can be alerted and take the phone out of charging.

Why not install custom roms which have tons of features and advanced doze mode like features which will make sure you don't have to worry about battery?
You don't even need to root your phone for that.

My phone already has stock Android... don't feel the need for a custom ROM :).
I never said a custom rom is only for stock android but here suggested to keep battery woes away.
If before sleeping the battery level of my phone is 84%, next morning it will be drained by just 1%. With of course mobile data/wifi/gps/bt turned off. Or I can even set the data to be on/off at intermittent periods yet the battery wont fall below 82%.

One of the key reason for low battery life cycles for mobile is how fast they are made to charge. The higher the C rating of the battery the more faster it can be charged but it also stresses the battery. The more the battery is stressed the less the life of battery would be. Also Charging the LIPO to the full is not recommended is because it can stresses the battery. Same is not the case with lead batteries.

Why not just replace the battery when it shows signs of capacity degradation? Isn't spending money on a new battery a better option than having to manually keep your battery between 20-80% or having lower than max battery life by only charging to 80% via an app (which if you think is a battery having 20% capacity degradation anyways)?

In some countries replacing a non Apple/ Samsung battery is not an option.
Where I live, most people never heard of Xiaomi.
