it doesn't have to be raspberry pi to run pi hole - you can run it inside your current system as VM or container and gets benefited.

No popups but Ads inside Youtube still on . They cant be blocked . Before seeing any video or in between video

I have been using this but having a bit of issues with cloudflared DOH application. Have added cloudflare and google doh to its query list. But it always seems to error out whenever there is a loss of internet and it doesn't correct itself. Always have to stop and restart the Cloudflared process.

Yes . In my Firefox i am using default Cloudfare DNS over HTTPS. I am using 1.1.1.2 , 1.0.0.2 , 2606:4700:4700::1112 and 2606:4700:4700::1002 cloudfare DNS servers
The best was NextDNS but i finished 300000 queries per month in 15 days due to number of users .
might even pay 170/month . There DNS was best , fast and clean
 
I just setup my router dns to include adguard dns and it is working well enough to block ads for now.

Also my router has an option to add 100 URLs to block. I know that is not too much but any idea which should be the top 100 URLs i should block? where to find these?

You can use yandex Dns or cloud flare dns based on what kind of filtering you wish to add over the top of pihole.


Now that people are discussing the raspberry pi was wondering if any one can shate a noob friendly tutorial to setup a personal mail server on the pi.

I tried with postfix devcot and squirellmail but didn't work..

I also felt Next DNS is better
Cloudfare was 70/ and NextDNS 170/ per month . Yet to decide which one to take

No Speeds wont suffer if you use widely used DNS service , like Google , Cloudfare, OpenDNS , NextDNS

I also have 2 lifetime any device license . It was also good .



How many of you tried this - https://canyoublockit.com/extreme-test/ ?
Its really heavy on browser also if AdBlocks not working properly

Got a Raspberry Pi couple of days ago. Deployed Pi Hole today in the evening. It's running fine right now, yet to see results though.
Have couple of questions though; How and where can I change the interface? Right now it's configured to Ethernet interface IP of Pi. In future I want to change it to WiFi IP of Pi. How to do that? Secondly, where can i change the Admin password that I need to log in the web management interface of Pi?
 
Set it up this evening,

Not able to block Youtube AD at the Youtube App ( iOS and Andriod both cases).

Followed the below method because it is 5 Months old but running on Raspberry Lite OS,

The Web interface password needs to be reset via the command line on your Pi-hole. This can be done locally or over SSH. You will use the pihole command to do this:
pihole -a -p

You will be prompted for the new password. If you enter an empty password, the password requirement will be removed from the web interface.

from LAN to WIFI , Reconfigure PiHole settings - pihole -r
 
Another option could be windscribe pro subscription

They now have VPN along with robot, their dns solution to block ads

You can get it for as low as 2 dollars a month of you build a basic plan

Use smart tube on fire stick or vanced youtube on android... Works flawlessly and anyways the customization in these apps make them better imo compared to native app

Thanks for the confirmation - All News Portal, some regional News Portal are clean, Great experience so far.

Only thing I'm worried when the Lightning Storm happens, Can't just flick the MCB to the off position....Living in a place where Power Cable hanging in the light post overhead barebone.

Need to setup Mobile SSH and quick shutdown command.

I know youtube ads can't be blocked but i also see that some devices have hardcoded dns servers and bypass the pihole.

Is it possible to deal with that?

Have been using pihole for 2+ years now. Forgot how ads look like. I've 2 x Raspberry Pi 3. Each hosting pihole ( mirror configuration : set as primary/secondary dns in router) + Samba share for home media needs.

I checked out the guide . Google cloud is free for 90 days only . They must have changed T&Cs
 
Been trying to change the server port for Pi-hole from default 80 as will be deploying Open Media Vault on the same device. Was able to change "server-port" from 80 to user-defined one in lighttpd.conf file but as many have said that this isn't a permanent solution as Pi-hole would revert to 80 upon next update. Solution was said to be making similar entry in external.conf BUT that is an empty file and when I do make a such an entry into it and then try to restart lighttpd service I get the error:-
"Job for lighttpd.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status lighttpd.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details."

You might need to block port 53 and 443 on your router level and redirect them to the pihole.
AFAIK, this feature might not be available in basic consumer routers. Might need advanced routers or firewalls like ubiquiti or pfsense etc.

Hmm port triggering on my tp link router seems to be what i would need?

Or maybe using the virtual servers option?
