Cloud storage

So I subscribed for Google Suite with a friend of mine back in 2018 for 10.5 Euros a month which offered us truly unlimited uploads. So it was like 5 euros per person. Now the problem is after paying for this for nearly three years now I have spent like 14-15k and I have uploaded like 3.5 TB of data. Problem is I need to keep paying in future as long as I want to access to our data. At this point I feel like that's a bit insane.

So can you guys give me some idea where online/ cloud storage is offered for lesser rate with more data? I know all about the Mega, multiple GDrive tricks etc. nothing interesting. I was thinking something ridiculous last night, that what if I just create a telegram group where I can upload all my data. But I have found previously that Telegram is not reliable as once all my saved messages were gone just like that.

Any ideas?

Err why don't you have an NAS . It can be used as cloud storage. Accessible from outside and all

Wow I had no clue this type of items are sold in grey market! Damn. The seller only has 9 feedback though. Have you personally dealt with him?
They dont last more than a year . Have bought more than 10 of these . including Onedrive , Google , edu accounts . Lifespan not more than 1 year
They can go down anytime

How frequently do you need to access this data. If you are only using it for backup, then just buy a couple of external HDDs and keep your data saved like olden times.

First i heard of the term in 2010 maybe. It's 2020 and i still don't know what the heck is a NAS. I'm that lazy.

Oh dear.

Not that frequently. I would have gone the HDD way without even asking if last year my 2 TB didn't crap out on me. Since then I'm very cautious. Even if i purchase a hard disk it must be a internal and good ones like Reds or Blacks only which have the least rate of failure.

Then can u share the Gsuite with more users to get the monthly price come down ?

May sound weird of what I do but I have 2 External HDDs of 2 different brands. Whenever something is to be backed up, it is done in both HDDs and whenever I remember, I check the HDD as in whether it detects fine and works and all.
I don't expect both to fail simultaneously. So If one fails, I can buy another one and can go about like I was doing.

Some external drives have enterprise drives inside (not sure which ones), which are quite reliable. Like raksrules said, you can get two for redundancy.

if storage is in TB's try blackblaze or wasabi these are two only reliable cloud storages. and dont go with grey market gsuite acc. some day your account get banned and thats it. you loose all your data.

Unlimited storage options with GSuite is going away now that its becoming Google Workspace.

You can buy a Gsuite legacy domain with 50 / 100 users, create 5 users and make use of 5 TB and add more users as needed, the shared drive will allow you to combine space of all users. Google has no plans of eliminating grandfathered legacy accounts as of now, but it may happen few years down the line. This is a one time payment and not monthly like your present setup.

Don't opt for EDU accounts, I have used those and know how to create them for free but they get deleted very soon by administrators of those schools / university.

Alternatively, you could configure a NAS at home and use Blackblaze / Amazon S3 for backup.

Alternatively, you could buy a Microsoft Office 365 Home 6 user account on Amazon, costs around 4500 with discounts for 6 users, 12 months. With 1 TB of storage each. You get office for all your PCs as well.

Do you know any specific ones ?

It's shared with 3 users (including me), now I've bailed out leaving those 2 users only.

Thanks all others for valuable suggestions. I'll consider them, backblaze and wasabi and also check how to set up a NAS.

For local backups I will never use a external hard drive again. I'll opt for either Black or Red internal drives from now on. On external drives I'll never keep my important data anymore.

Setting up home nas part is very easy, if you want to set a networked storage for backup purposes, you should get a linux box that can have internal hdds, preferably mix of ssds and hdds, install nfs/btrfs and span filesystem across the drives, these filesystems are smart enough to recognize the ssds and will use them for caching. and setup cron jobs to take snapshots every now and then. (snapshots is the reason why you want to use copy on write filesystems like zfs or btrfs and not traditional filesystems.) this way you will have backups where you can go back in time if you **** up the backup themselves. (there are lot of stories where admins fat fingered backups)
setting up nfs is as simple as two lines of shell script.
