Budget tablet to read pdf and ebooks

OP Currently..

Thank you all for your suggestions. I was silently watching all the discussions. I'd like to add a few more points: (btw lol @ above meme)

1. Buying used isn't an option. Unless i can find a really well maintained ipad mini in my budget.
2. I have previously used ipad mini between 2014-17 and loved it as a pdf reader. But my budget doesn't allow me to go for ipad this time.
3. Kindle will be excellent choice but 90% of my usage is pdf reading with some illustrations/diagrams.

Seems like i won't get any decent 10 incher in 10k. I decided to wait till January and increase my budget to 12.5k (MAX). Unless flipkart or amazon offer one in sale, Samsung tabs still feel out of reach. Lenovo M10 (2+32GB) and Huawei MediaPad is still above my budget, moreoever heared that google has banned huawei so no youtube and gmail.

Do you stiil have that Fire HD 10 from the prime / black friday sale?

@hgps If Rahul has it, it is your best bet. It was $80+ taxes on black friday and Rahul had one spare. He can get it to India for you for a fee.
 
Cmon guys. I believe msankadi's first post in this thread was more than appropriate, until muathaz decided to make a personal post for no reason. I think his consequent posts were also pretty accurate and he was clearly speaking from experience. And anyway, everyone suggesting iPads were obviously not fitting the brief of the OP. There is no option for the OP, apart from Android tablets in that budget.

I suggest you fix a max budget which you just cannot go over and choose what you can get. Be it a nice android tablet or an older iPad. Just don't go for bottom of barrel sh!t android tablets or super old iPads (due to no latest iOS support) and you would be good. Sometimes, buying a proper device right now will avoid all the pain of dealing with a sub par experience and eventually you want to use the tablet as a tool to accomplish something.

I just don't have experience with any premium android tablets except cheap (relatively) ones and here is what I think...

Amazon Fire HD 10 -> Very nice tablet and bang for buck for $80 + Taxes which I got for when I was in US. Amazing media experience with the widescreen and Full HD screen. Recently developed crack thanks to my kid dropping it. But still very usable. I would buy again in a heart beat if this goes bad completely. But yes it becomes slow many a times and needs a restart and sluggish too. Experience for browsing is subpar.

Amazon Fire 7 -> Okiesh tablet. Not HD screen even. No L1 DRM so no streaming service plays in 720p even, only SD. I use for watching tv shows on the go to my office as it is a 1.5 Hour+ ride.

Nexus 7 2012 -> Had bought back in 2012 for Rs. 9999 I think from Flipkart and it was good at that time but became really bad later and sold it off.

I don't think so. His second post has been edited and it shows when it was edited. In fact all edited posts show that information, so no, his first post doesn't seem to be edited.

Even the weight of Ipad or any other tablet would be impossible to sustain continuously even for a few hours. Kindle is the ONLY option (unless you want to go for other eink readers which are also there but have lesser reach and books)

If your use case is however pdfs then don't go for a kindle. I think your budget is more than sufficient to get a basic tablet. Get a second-hand tablet on android or ios. Either should be good enough for your use case. You might need to be patient to find a good second-hand deal however, I think it is worth it to wait as there is no need to spend double the amount for your use case.

There is no problem with Kindle app or the magzter app on android tablets. They work perfectly fine. Absolutely no problems.

Problem might be people comparing a 35k ios tablet to a sub 10k android tablet. If you want premium android experience on tablets you can go for Samsung similarly priced ones. They have the best screens in the industry just like the Samsung phones have the best screens.

These apps will work on ios too. However, loading pdfs on iPad will be painful and you will probably need to use iTunes etc.

Yeah, but this is his second post. And after that IMHO, Muathaz's reply to his first post didn't help and that is putting it mildly.
Edit - Anyhow, all I want is that people should debate without any condescending personal remarks. Even if one has to ask something personal, the tone and manner in which one asks can help de-escalate the situation.

Edit 2 - You seem to be right. His first post is surely edited. My bad. However, I have no idea if there was anything condescending or personal remarks against other members in that post.

I get aggravated when someone pushes opinion on others and terms like fanboys.

Everyone is entitled to have a opinion so why try to change them aggressively!

First of all i never even mentioned this muthu guy in my post. It was purely my experience, he just has a habit of trying to convert the whole world to apple and attack anyone who doesn't like what he doesn't with remarks like pixel camera is worse than iphone 6s! Haha. His first comment in this thread was a pure personal attack calling me a joke etc.

I have a tendency to correct the grammar and content of all my posts which is what I did in the first one. My edit was to add an olx warning for the op just in case.

Your claim that you want to protect the freedom of speech is laughable at best. You yourself tried to stop me from expressing my opinion, first by being aggressive and challenging me that I don't have the devices I commented on.

When, I did prove that I own the aforementioned devices to you, you then called me a hypocrite and an apple closet fan, which is probably the worst possible abuse. Both of these again were to stipulate that my opinion is somewhat less worthy compared to yours.

I agree with your thought though, that each of us should be allowed to have and express our own opinions.

Yes I have that someone was interested then backed out. I completely forgot about it. I have it for sale any one who need it grab it fast.

I asked you because u said any low end Samsung tablet has a better screen than any iPad !
I wanted to know which tablet you had seen or used to make that claim!
And now also I say that claim of yours is foolish as I don't see u mentioning to have used any Galaxy Tab A comparing it to an iPad
You used Tab S6.

Please contact @Ra.hul as he has a sealed pack Amazon Fire HD 10 in US and he can deliver it to you in India. I feel it would serve you great. Just that you will need case for it so I suggest buy that too via him or you order to his US address and get it both here.
Because you wont find Its case in India mostly.

As far as I know, he is selling it at his buying price which is $80 plus local taxes. Of course to get it to India, he will charge fees.

Right. Again calling my opinion as foolish before saying don't respond? And you're supposedly the one who thinks everyone is entitled to have their own opinion. This is the definition of a hypocrite. "All opinions are sacred, except the ones which i don't agree with."

I'm curious to know how are you trying to actually help the op in this thread or even giving him any useful information. Why even bring up discussions without the budget when op has clearly mentioned his budget? Why keep brining up ipad when op has clearly mentioned his budget? Are you the one providing the op with an ipad in his budget of 10k? has he already found one in his budget?


Can you quote the part where have I said that a budget android tablet has a better screen than a 4x+ pricier ipad? Did I mistype something as I don't believe that is a logical thing to say. This is what I was saying: if you're investing 4x+ money for an ipad might as well go for Samsung screen tablets.

It is better to have a bias and be cognizant of it, instead of being biased and blindsided by the bias. I already tagged op yesterday on an ipad mini te sale thread as it was in his budget with a broken screen despite my so called "foolish opinion", I am trying to help him/her.

Please create a new thread as mentioned above if you just want to have an altogether different conversation.
