Android USB c to 3.5mm question

Hi

Does the usb c to 3.5mm extension distort sound output to a wired headphone?

If I plan to use a decent wired headphone with a non 3.5mm jack :mad: phone via dongle, would that sound crap like an aux cable or as good as a 3.5mm jack?

Usb c to 3.5mm have a dac inbuilt. If you buy a good one like Samsung, sound shouldn't be a problem. It may offer better sound due to dac and power from usbc

Depends on various factors, you can get both active and passive dongles . Active ones have their own DAC and passive ones use phone's. I had that with Motorola z2 if it detected DAC in dongle would use that otherwise use phone DAC with a dongle without DAC. Most do have built in now a days though.

Regarding audio quality It should be same as headphone jack technically , but I never buy a phone without 3.5mm jack . Problem with dongle is they can be easily lost ,and also if headphone rotates in 3.5mm jack it never causes damage and are more robust, where as more chances of damage to USB c port other than obvious inconvenience . But audio quality at least on paper should be same for most part. As both use wired connection and use same DAC ( phone's ) I think !

Also apple USB c to 3.5mm ones are great for the price and very good DAC for price ( better than most DAC built on phones ) , other option is to get fiio if you want Bluetooth but I will always prefer wired.

I think @red dragon can tell you more maybe. As I don't use non 3.5mm jack phones much to compare.

thanks for the suggestion, I am not looking for anything fancy and I just honestly want a simple converter to use my wired hd280 while at home. I read the one plus dongle has very good quality but it is sadly oos on opo website and amazon seems to be flooded with duplicates of that product.
Dont want to go for apple one as I am sure they will want to charge me 3-4k for something as simple as this

Nope that's the best part , apple one is 900 and its for sure worth it IMO !

I also heard great things about the Apple dongle.
@ OP, if you're using Sennheiser HD280, you will be greatly benefited by good active dongle with a powerful amp.
I'm no expert in dongles ( keep on loosing them) but those cans do upscale TREMENDOUSLY well with strong amplification. You will be pleasantly surprised to discover how far these cans can go...
It's a pity that Sennheiser is trying to sell their consumer electronics division.
Neumanns are so expensive!! Cans like HD280 actually sound very close to NDH20 level with good amplification at a fraction of price.

Thanks for the suggestion... Get your point.. Now I'll have to spend more as it does make sense to spend a bit more to get active ones vs passive ones

Will look for used fiio if I can... I have one from many years ago which i bought used from te still works very well

There's a guy selling Tempotec Sonata HD in the market section. It's a very good starting point if you want to get into portable DACs.

Edit - Looks like that one is already sold. You could have ordered the same earlier from Aliexpress, but not now due to the ban. I've heard most sellers offer the same products through eBay now. Check if you can order from there.

I may have my cousin's Musiland MU2 up for sale over the weekend; just need to pick it up from his place.
