CPU/Mobo 3600Mhz RAM performing worse than 3200Mhz??!!

Hi All,

Building a PC for my friend and ordered 3200Mhz from a FM. Got it today and tested it on my system (since other components are yet to arrive for my friend's build) fired up FarCry 6 Behnchark with my 3080 and Ryzen 7 5800x

With the Kit 1 3200 Mhz C16 - 18 - 18 got an avg framerate of 95/96 FPS
With the Kit 2 3600 Mhz C18 - 22- 22 got an average scrore of 91 or at best 93.

I know Ryzen likes tighter timings vs higher speeds but I'd expect the performance to be same or 1-3% better, not Worse. Both are 16GB x 2.

Kit 1 a Kingston Fury RGB
Kit 2 is a Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB

Board is an x570 Aorus Pro Wifi. Latest BIOS.

Any thoughts?

Yea I noticed that, the main latency is 2 higher but the sub timings are 4! What'd you suggest? Lowering freq n tightening the timing? Tool by 1mus is effective? Never had the time to play around before
 
It's a miniscule difference to worry about TBH. For me stability matters much much more than those 2-3 FPS loss because the time and effort it takes to validate memory OC stability is a lot.

You can try what you have in mind. I'd settle for 3200MHz C16 personally and to validate the stability you can use a couple passes of memtest86.

Dont judge rams by a mere 4-5 fps.
Try other games may be fps can be equal or higher.
Personally cl16-18 or 100 I wouldn't care as far as the game runs smooth on eye candies and most importantly my system is stable.

What's the FCLK clock in BIOS?

For 3200MHz RAM, 1600MHz FCLK gives 1:1 interface, so the best performance possible with it.

For 3600MHz RAM, it should be set to 1800MHz FCLK for 1:1. If FCLK is 1660MHz, it won't be 1:1 thus losing performance. Check XMP settings in the BIOS of the mobo. This stuff is called Gear 1 & 2 in Intel.

4-5 FPS translates to 4-5% in this case. Don't think free performance should be left on the table.

Thanks. I XMP is enabled but FCLK is set to Auto. Do I manually set them to 1800?

The 3200 i think is dual rank but the 3600 is indeed single rank. I'd read about this in the past, thanks for reminding me!

Yes, manually set FCLK to 1800. I found in my friend's R7 3700X + 3600MHz RAM rig that his mobo was using FCLK at 1600.
