Android Thoughts about Nokia G60 5G

Hi guys, I was thinking of buying a new smartphone in the near future. Will go for a 5G enabled phone.

I have been using Nokia 7 Plus, and I love the phone, despite it having certain shortcomings.

I love Nokia because of stock Android, and timely updates for OS and security patches. So, was thinking of buying a Nokia phone again. The only Nokia phone right now in India with 5G seems to be the Nokia G60 5G.

So wanted to know thoughts about this phone. The phone seems decent in terms of specifications. Just that, at 29990, it feels a bit overpriced to me

I also noticed that the phone is only available from their official site only. Why so?

The phone doesn't come with a charger. So, where to get the charger from? Their service center? Cannot see any charger in their Accessories link on the site. Or, have to buy a generic one online?

How is the processor of the phone.. good?

The back camera looks fine, but front camera with just 8 MP seems disappointing.

Also, Nokia is now giving 3 years of OS upgrades, so that's another positive thing.

128 GB storage and 6 GB RAM seems quite good

Does anyone know if any other 5G Nokia phone are going to be launched in India, and when? Where to get that information?

This phone seems quite good to me, but 30K seems a bit too much. Would like to go for around 25K phone. If one such phone from Nokia is coming soon, I should wait.

BTW, can I get a good back cover for Nokia 7 Plus online? Also, earphones for it? The earphones that came with it have gone bad.

Nokia phones are worse priced than already bad-priced Samsung phones.

Just get Moto Edge 30 for 23k if you want stock android. You get a much better phone hardware-wise & sacrificing only software support. Or for similar specs to Nokia G60, get Moto G62 for 15k - similar hardware, inferior software support but is just 15k. Get a different phone after 1.5 years for 15k if you want.

I don't change my phone soon... only after 4-5 years. That's why OS upgrades and security patches are important for me. Motorola phones are good, with stock Android, but they lack in terms of upgrades. I would rather go with higher priced Nokia for that. Thank you for the suggestions though.

That's not a problem for me, as I rarely make any videos



I don't change my phone soon... only after 4-5 years. That's why OS upgrades and security patches are important for me. Motorola phones are good, with stock Android, but they lack in terms of upgrades. I would rather go with higher priced Nokia for that. Thank you for the suggestions though.

Pixel 6a then - will get updates till android 15, and another year of security patches after that. Only Samsung A53 will outlast that for software updates, but poor exynos SoC in that.

So finally parting ways with N7+ aren't we..;)

As others have suggested, I would have suggested for Edge series from Moto. They might be slow when it comes to software updates, but don't bring software glitches like we had with N7+. The software is quite stable gives the other brands.

But Moto Edge series gives only 2 years OS and 3 yrs security updates. So you are better off with P6a as it's available for ~30k on Flipkart. Google has sorted out most of the issues with the Tensor chip and A13 build has improved stability. Nevertheless, that Tensor is still "masqueraded Samsung" so it will be warm after sometime, and hot when pushed.

Other issue is that Tiny battery. Be ready to frequently charge if you are going to push it "above average." Rest all seems good.

I personal use Moto Edge 20 Fusion and it has been the best phone I have purchased till now within 20k price bracket.

Well, Nokia 7+ still continues to perform very good... my favorite phone so far I think. But, it has developed charging issues, and that's why I want to buy a new phone now, otherwise, I would have been with it for a bit longer. I have to take out charging pin and put it in a few times before it starts charging.

Performance wise, it is still great, but now I use Multispace for an app, and I have a few clones, and because of that, the phone lags sometimes, coz that app uses a lot of memory

I also need better refresh rate for a few games

Motorola does seem good with stock Android, but I prefer faster and regular updates. How was Moto in terms of updates for your Moto phone? Did you receive all the OS updates as promised? Were they fast? What about security patches?

Pixel 6a seemed good, but it has a refresh rate of just 60 Hz and that is a big downer for me, because I need good refresh rate. Also, my brother was saying that Google phones are bad in terms of hardware and develop issues over time. His few friends bought Pixel and they developed hardware issues.

Ah dang! I will still try though... because I intend to keep my Nokia 7+ functioning till it lasts

My brother suggested the OnePlus 10R 5G phone as an option. The phone looks really good. Only thing is the price.. it is 33K, and that's quite costly for me. Also, it doesn't have 3.5 mm jack and no microSD card support

How does it sound as an option though? Are OnePlus phone good enough?

I am leaning more towards Nokia G60 5G, as I am familiar with the brand, and it is the right price for me. Right now, it is also available on Amazon at 28,499 and on Croma at 29K. Quite good prices, as per my budget

PS: what about charger for Nokia phone? I have to buy a generic 18W charger for it? Croma has an 18W Boat charger. That will work?

They do get regular updates, but yes speed is a bit slow. But then again, my experience with other vendors who provide fast updates but end up with hell lot of bugs. So I realised that quality updates is more important than quantity.
I have A12, it was delayed by quite a while. Not a concern coz stability was more important. A11 was butter smooth and so is A12. Now waiting for A13.
Security patches are released once in two months.

That is kinda true, but not for all devices. They definitely need to ramp up their QoS.

If you are looking for a good software experience, then I would you advise to stay away from it. They have taken quite a backseat after their departure from Oxygen OS and recent merger with Color OS. Also it lacks what you need.
Regarding higher refresh rate with Pixels, it might be 60 on paper but the experience is smooth so you won't miss 90hz.

Isn't Nokia supplying power brick with the box? I don't know. Regardless, if you want one you can try one from Redmi. It has an 18W adapter and you can get easily from Amazon.

Oh, that doesn't sound too bad then. Had really bad experience with their software updates for my mom's phone. The promised updates never arrived, not even security patches. But, that was Moto G3... they seem to have improved. But, that's why I wasn't too keen on buying Moto phones.

Hmm... thank you for that information. With OnePlus, it was like going into the unknown for me, since I never used that brand. I did like the amount of customization they provide with the OS though. But, if it not like before, I would rather stay away. The specs did seem quite good for a future proof phone for OnePlus 10R, but the problem was the price. And I think, they have also gone down in providing updates for the OS... earlier, I think, people used to get updates for very long time, but not nowadays. I don't know how much is that true

Nope, it doesn't say so for Nokia G60... charger is not there in the box contents. But, it does show charger in box content on Amazon, and they also say so in one of the questions too. Let's see. I hope they send the charger. Otherwise, I will have to get one. Why did they have to go the Apple way, sigh

Haha. Well, I just love the Nokia 7 Plus I have, and so, from the choices available for me, this seemed like the best option. Even if it seems a bit overpriced, I am getting what I want from the phone. Good RAM, great storage, good refresh rate, stock Android, regular worry-free updates for OS, and security patches, no bloatware, and the solid built of Nokia

I didn't want to go with the likes of Redmi, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo etc, or Samsung with their bloated OS, and the bloatware crap they install on the phone

I got the phone on time, from Amazon

Looks wise, the phone won't give you any good impression. My Nokia 7 Plus looks great, and has a premium feel, but not Nokia G60. The phone looks quite ordinary and plain. The back feels plasticky, and has a matt dotted sort of finish. But, it is good to hold to, has the grip. I don't mind the looks so much, but it does seem quite plain, for a phone of this price

I did get a charger with the phone, and that is really good for me, because I like original charger for the phone. I am glad I did not have to buy it separately. On Nokia's site though, in contents of box, there is no charger written. I also asked Croma store in my city, and they did confirm that the phone does not come with a charger. So, I don't know how the Amazon seller pulled it off, but I am really glad about the charger. I was expecting not to find any charger inside, but was hoping what was written on Amazon site was true.

My Nokia 7 Plus came with a back cover and wired earphones too, but they aren't there with this phone. I do miss these. Wish Nokia still provided them. Besides charger, I got USB cable, and the SIM pin.

The phone had a huge update of 2.6 GB when I started it... I thought it would be Android 13, but I checked, and about phone says Android 12. So, did I just receive an update of 12 from 11? Lol... there goes my first update I guess. But on site, it says Android 12, so I don't know what that update was for and if it will be counted as 1 of the 3 updates. There wasn't any details about the update at all. And this was during initial power up, way early before the phone was setup completely, and before the final home screen appeared.

Coming to the OS itself, this is what I love in Nokia, stock Android. There are a few apps pre-installed, like Google One, Google Home, GoPro Quick, Netflix, Spotify, but all these, I was able to uninstall without any issues. So, no bloatware at all. This is what I want from my phone. I should be able to control what apps I want on my phone.

The phone operates smoothly. I am very happy with it.

I am slowly installing the apps that I need, after I setup the phone, updated the patches, and the apps from Play Store, and checked all the settings from Settings. I will also transfer all my data from old Nokia to new Nokia slowly.

I had a question about two apps. I want all my Whatsapp chats and media on my new phone. Earlier, I could just copy the Whatsapp folder from my old phone to the new phone, and when I installed Whatsapp on new phone, it would pick that backup, and restore it. But, I did that with my mom's new phone, and that did not work. Any idea why? I don't think it will work this time too. So, is there any easy method by which I can get Whatsapp data as it is on my new phone?

I did find videos on YouTube doing it with the CloneIt app, but I saw that the app they mention is no longer available on Play Store now. Instead, there are so many apps there now with the same name. Which one to use? I also have another app, a gaming app, for which I would like all the data from that app as it is on my new phone. So, any app that can do that?

I also found other videos, using Google Drive to backup and restore Whatsapp data, but I don't want it that way, because I have GBs of data. It will take hours to upload and download.

There was another method to take backup of the Whatsapp folder somewhere else, after taking local chat backup. Then install Whatsapp on new phone, backup its chat locally. Then, clear its data, and then copy and paste all data there from old Whatsapp folder, and then setup Whatsapp again, after which it takes that backup and restores all the chat and media. I might have to do that too, unless there is a software like CloneIt available.

About PhonePe too... if I install PhonePe on my new phone, will it install without needing to set it up again from scratch? Will it refer to my number, and will get all the data and accounts as it is? Will I get all the history of transactions too? Or, will I have to transfer its data too with the help of an app like CloneIt?

I had around 5 GB. Normal Whatsapp backup and restore is what I used as it is the most reliable way and you get to blame Whatsapp if it fails. Mine was done in 15-20 mins and not hours. I did it over Wifi.

Previously, whatsapp dir was in main storage folder, now they moved it to android/media/com.whatsapp.
Do keep a backup of your whatsapp folder safely till setup is completed as you do not want to loose it while trying to do the setup

What you can do is -
1. install whatsapp in your new phone, and open it once. DO NOT continue with setup, just open the app and close it again (this will create directory structure)
2. take your whatsapp folder from old phone and check if path --> "android/media/com.whatsapp" exists in your new phone, and copy "WhatsApp" folder inside that
3. start whatsapp setup, it should be able to find your local backup

if it did not find local backup and says that online backup is found, u need to disable that in your google drive first

No need to delete, you will have option to turn it off. Try above steps again

For phonepe, as its new phone, it will do setup again like sending sms to fetch bank a/c's etc, but your PINs will be same and transactions will appear

Oh, that's impressive. I have 18GB though lol, and it would take really long. Also, I think Google Drive limit is 15 GB. Plus, I don't want my data going on Google.

About that game app, is there any app, which can transfer the app, as well as its data too, so that I get all the data as it is on the new phone too? I have some chats on it that I do not want to lose. Also, this app doesn't keep any local backup like Whatsapp does, and it isn't synced with their servers, like Telegram either.
 
Have another query. The phone didn't come with a USB cable to connect the phone to PC. It just came with USB type C connector at both ends, which connects to the charger

My mother has the One Plus Nord phone, and it has a USB cable to connect to PC, with type C connector at one end. Can I use that for my Nokia phone?
