I don't think these are really comparable especially cause there is a 10k difference in the price you can easily get a used 6800xt for 26-29k whereas a 3080Ti is more like 35-38k. Also there are not a lot of 3080Ti available for sale on the used market. So, if you have the extra cash then go for the 3080Ti but if that exceeds you budget or you don't think you are going to be using much RT then the 6800XT is a good choice especially since it performs very close to the 3080Ti in raw raster in most games.
A few points:
- A 6800XT and 3080Ti are at two very different price points
- It depends on whether you care about RT
- A better choice (keeping finances in mind) would be between the 6800XT and 3080 (non-Ti). A 3080 can be had for the same price range.
- A 3080 is faster than a 6800XT, as it currently stands, even in raster. It's closer to a 6900XT, in performance. It's slower than a 3080Ti by around 10%, which you can easily gain by overclocking (if you're comfortable with that)
- Main sacrifice would be VRAM vs a 6800XT, whether you get a 3080 or 3080Ti. More so with a 3080. You have to weigh the trade-off
- I personally use a 3080 and play at 1440p. I haven't run into any VRAM problems (yet), but at the brink with specific games.

9070xt is very expensive in india, i believe it isnt available at MSRP in the U.S too. but the chart says 6800XT is reaching 100+ fps for 1440P, which comes to the question how many fps is needed/required for a smooth stutterfree gameplay for a single player/non multiplayer type game ?

not very comfortable with overclocking but dont mind trying it if the temps are ok.
since you own a 3080, can you tell me how many fps is required for a smooth gameplay, more the better i understand but anything above 60fps is noticeable ?
It depends on what you prefer. Yes, above 60 fps is notable, especially if you have a high refresh rate monitor. If you're running a 60 Hz display, then you won't really notice much improvement. But if you're already coming from a lower frame rate currently, 60 fps would be fine.
In my experience, for first person games played with a mouse and keyboard, even 72-75 fps makes for a night and day difference when compared to a locked 60 fps on a 60 Hz display. While those extra frames won't be seen without a higher refresh display, they're still guaranteed to deliver markedly lower latency and responsiveness.
(To be clear, I'm referring to actual frames here, whether native or upscaled, and not 'generated' frames, which have no place in this conversation).

At what prices?
I was looking for a used GPU is mid 2024, 3080 10GB wasn't near 25k (was 30k+), 3080Ti was close to 40k. I ended up buying a new 7900GRE for 54k back then, it might be worth considering a new 7800XT for 46k even now to avoid the hassles of the used route as GPUs have higher failure rates than CPU, RAM & SSD, so not worth the risk unless the price is decent.

Got pics of a 6800XT from a popular website, but the pics sent looked like the screws were tampered with, i'd like to spend btwn 25-30K, goal here is to get to 1440p ultra/max settings.

I can't get 1440p max settings 60fps on all new games on my 7900GRE, forget that expectation with 6800XT or 3080Ti. IMO high is good enough & high vs max setting differences are not easily noticeable in many cases.
For 30k, used 3080Ti would be decent but the problem is if you will even get it at that price. 6800XT for 25k is fine as well but I see 3070Ti selling over 20k (it is a bad GPU for those prices).

6800XT I agree, but isn't the 3080 Ti the same or slightly faster than the GRE (sans VRAM)?

Around the same ball park for sure, but 3080Ti is 2 gen old, so most cards you get as used will be without warranty & GPUs have a relatively high failure rate in medium term, like after 3+ years. Considering people were expecting 40k+ for 3080Ti when I was looking, it made no sense to me. If 7800XT was 45k back then, that would have been an easy choice but it was 50k back then, so I ended up with 7900GRE. Also, 7900GRE will get an easy 10% fps boost with OC.

this is the same guy who sent me pics of 6800XT for 27k, looked like a repaired piece to me. yea thanks for pointing out the failure rate issue, frankly i dint even think of it. new GPU prices are high right now contemplating if i should spend upwards of 50k on it now.
this is a suprise to me, i was following the toms hardware gpu hierarchy to base my requirements, i thougth i was good till 60 fps on 4k with 6800XT as the chart suggests, but with your insight this truly changes everything for me.
are you sure your not CPU capped or ram capped ? https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/gpus/amd-radeon-rx-7900-gre-review/5 this suggests that the 7900 gre is good for 60fps @ 4k ultra without RT ofcourse.
