71-90K buying a convertible laptop

NewRegisterer

Beginner
hello, I wanted recommendation for a uni laptop.

It needs to be convertible, with a touch screen.. for notes. I can buy a stylus separately. It also needs to have okay-ish specs, which are futureproof for 3-4 years.

I was looking around and found this laptop, it fits nicely with my requirments, Asus LJ073WS ROG Flow X13 Gaming Laptop.
but this would be streaching my budget. I was looking for something under 80-85k or something better than it if possible.

thanks for reading.

I have used convertible laptops before but hinges have failed to me. Frustrated, I ditched consumer laptops and for a year only using used business 2-in-1 laptops. Their hinges are a class apart. I currently own Thinkpad X1 Yoga (intel 10th gen) (aluminium build) and Thinkpad X13 Yoga (intel 10th gen) (magneisum build) - both having in-chassis stylus holder. Both bought in the 30-32k range from resellers who get these in bulk from IT companies when they off-load it after 2-3 years in use because of policy rules.

That's correct. I have been researching more and have come to the conclusion that a tablet would be the best for me. Still thank you for your response.
With 80-90k you can easily get a samsung s10 fe+ .

But if you are looking in for a touch laptop,
I really wouldn't recommend any consumer grade laptop. They aren't extremely bad in terms of how long they can last.
Try used business grade laptop.
Laptops like the lenovo touch T and X series are great for daily use.

I was also looking into s9 ultra. Do s10 FE and S9 ultra have any drastic differences?

The s9 ultra features a much larger 14.6 inch screen with a much better amoled display.
While the s10 fe non-plus features a much smaller 10.9 inch tft screen.

in price , the s10 fe is about 40-50k, while the s9 ultra is about 100k.

In terms of content consumption, the s9 ultra us much better coming at a ginormous 14.6 inch screen with a amoled display providing a great oled experience.

For taking notes, the s9 ultra could be hard to Carry due to its size.

In terms of proccessing power, the s9 ultra has a snapdragon 8 gen 2 chipset, giving a antutu score of 1,250,000..
While the s10 fe has exynos 1580 chipset giving a antutu score of 840,000.

Besides the s9 ultra being older gen, I don't think so there is any other drastic difference.

If you want a big bigger screen, you can look for the s10 fe+ giving a 13.1 inch screen. Still LCD, so display quality remains lower than AMOLED.

You can also look into the s9+ for 80k, with 12.4 inch amoled screen.
But that has a much worse chipset performance compared to the s10 fe.

So if I want a bigger screen i should go for s9 ultra but if not then s10 FE is the best choice, even better than s9+ and with a lower price?

S9 ultra at 100k : 14.6 inch and AMOLED
S9 plus at 80k : 12.4 inch and AMOLED
S10 Fe plus at 55k : 13.1 inch but TFT lcd
S10 Fe at 45k: 10.9 inch but TFT lcd

The processing power is also different in all of them

You should understand the difference between oled and lcd too as oled can be a game changer :

Also screen size is mostly upto you,.
I highly recommend you check them in person.

And surprisingly nobody suggested hp x360 convertible. No hinges worry as they are made of steel.
Hp x360 hinges are trash as any consumer laptop. HP = Hinge problem. On the other hand, HP ELitebook convertible - business laptop are very good though. Many of my colleagues use (abuse) it thought it remains a minority among Thinkpad convertibles owing to more variants.

Did you brought them online or offline?

Do you mean envy 360 ? The following thread has used probook 360 for sale. Do you think they too 'll have the same problems ?

@NewRegisterer if you are open to used, give that a try if hinges aren't an issue instead of spending big bucks. If it works, then you can upgrade if you feel the need to. Don't worry about performance of old laptops, until 2 years ago we were doing enterprise development on intel macs with all kinds of VMs and stuff. Your learning workload should be fine as long as you have enough ram.

If you are looking at AI & LLM, you are better off with a mac(M series) and pair that with a pen tablet for notes.

Offline ofcoure. My rule of buying anything used - face 2 face. I'm in blr so no shortage of IT companies and proper resellers who offload thinkpads from such companies at cheap rates. Both resellers had swanky stores and gave me 3 months testing warranty.

Yes I meant Envy, rather any consumer line of laptops. Probook is business - they should be solid.
All hinges are metal, what the consumer laptops do is they screw the metal hinges to a plastic thread :banghead:, so that it breaks in 2-3 years and then you have to buy a new one.
This is not the case in business laptop - the thread and the base of the thread is usually not plastic, since they have to abide by the stringent servicing requirements of the companies/businesses buying them.
