Storage Solutions HDD vs Cheap SSD for self hosted cloud storage?

Was thinking of dipping my feet into self hosted cloud storage as a hobby. Will maybe run the machine for 18 hours a day.
  • Should I opt for an hdd or a cheap sata ssd? A 2tb hdd costs around 5-6k while a cheap sata ssd costs around 9k.
  • How reliable are cheaper brands like EVM?
  • If going with an hdd, should I go for a surviellance hdd as opposed to a regular one?
  • Would buying a preowned hdd or ssd be fine from a long term perspective?
Would like to hear any other opinions too.
 
Look into what type of usage you will be going for in terms of longevity
Scenario #1 : Mainly a media server( less write frequency and lots of reads)
Scenario #2 : Home office + editing(high write frequency)

Scenario #1 : consumer SSDs are fine
Scenario #2 : Using consumer SSDs are a bad idea cause limited write cycles on consumer SSDs.

I was thinking of starting out with just a cloud server for backup that my family could access remotely. Something like Nextcloud or Filecloud. So the day to day usage will be very low. Would an ssd still be worth it or would an hdd suffice?
 
I have been using SSD for the same purpose with Intel NUC and Nextcloud. It is fine for auto backup of media and documents for family.
Normal ssd will work fine. I am using MX500 1tb which I got on offer for 3500. Another 1tb for backup.

Also I am hosting around 10 more services on the same machine with docker.
In around 6-8 months my drive TBW is around 0.6 TBW. So, I think it will last long.

Thats great. 3500 for the mx500 is a great buy. If I go with a bigger form factor pc, would a 3.5" HDD be fine instead of an ssd?
