ONU and Router Recomendation

Hi, what ONU are you using on a 100+ mbps connection and router. What speeds do you get?

Looking for ONU recommendation. My ISP Tech suggested me to go for a gigabit router with inbuilt ONU, but I am not confident if it is the right path.
Having these separate would mean I get to replace the one that failed, and not the whole unit.

doesn't seems like the person has much information on the topic. this is a costly and worst advice.

Im really confused how to answer this, hence writing as bullet points.
  • im assuming this is not airtel or jio - as i don't think we can use any 3rd party hardware with them...
  • ISP has tie-up with hardware providers, get the UNU from them, it will be cheaper and you are risk free and what they have would be industrial grade.
  • if not get something form revotix, digisol, etc.. literally anything will work.
  • Focus on getting the router -- get the best in your budget. dont let ISP touch this, you configure this yourself..
edit: see this - https://www.multilinkonline.com/REVOTIK-1GE-ONU-RVEPON101_p_1502.html - something like this would suffice.
edit 2 - see this - https://www.amazon.in/dp/B09ZXVX9V7 - would avoid these kind of Chinese rebrands, its trying to show 2 lan port but only 1 usable. 10/100 LAN on fiber? folks need to get out of DSL era .

ISP tech provided the option to buy Digisol one for 1250 (DIGISOL -GR6010 I assume)
may be that has wifi as well, or some irrelevant feature.
the link you provided seems to be ok.. but if possible check compatibility with the ISP person.

pricing and availability of networking is all over the places... im seriously missing Aliexpress. 99% of the "100% made in india" claim products are nothing but Chinese product inside made in india packet with 4x price.

Not sure which is the right site yet? www.multilinkonline.com vs www.multilink.in
i think both belong to the same shop. ( check DM im sending you a number to verify)

Just make sure that your isp allows you to configure ONU in bridge mode. After that you can buy any ONU with a gigabit port and configure it with a Wifi Router of your choice.

For fiber - ONU/Modem etc, if you have the tech know how OR your ISP is accommodating - then buy. Else take theirs.

For 100M - anything will be fine. Its when you move into GbE and above space that you need better quality stuff.

If I configure ISP router to bridge mode, will it also handle the authentication? Or do I have to setup my credentials in my wifi router?

I'm too afraid to change the route/ap/bridge mode setting or call the ISP since I bribed the technician to get the router password.

My ISP is local provider in Bangalore and ISP router is the Nokia 4 port gigabit fiber thingy.

Getting router password is your right, in order to change wifi ssid/password. You can't leave it to mercy of provider, specially local.

Regarding authetication, as @anmolbhard004 asked, you need to find , what type of authentication is used by your ISP. Normally with pppoe authentication, in bridge mode your wifi router does the authentication and ISP router acts as media converter (almost).
