Large Capacity HDD's (6TB-20TB)

nah? sounds about right to me. generally prices in US go anywhere from my 13-15$/tb, so 300$ for 22 sounds reasonable to me
You're literally paying 50$/tb for last 2TBs in this case.

Is there something else about the 22TB model that’s better than the 20TB on Serverpartdeals for $211?

ah damn nice that's actually a good price

@aasimenator can you update which all drives you have now.
Looking to buy at least 4 drives (8-16TB range) now to build a RAID 5 cluster.

Seagate Exos, WD Ultrastar or Reds or any other.
Or whichever would be easier for you to procure in the future. I am hoping to keep all the same drive if I increase capacity or any drive fails in the future.

Exos are easily available. Not in the same series but definitely same brand or model.
WD Reds and Golds etc are harder to find, Ultrastar is also easily found.

Currently i only have those HPE / OEM Exos available in 16tb - 18Tb capacity.

No 14Tb drives, and i have Toshiba 12TB again HPE drives.
Nothing lower than 12Tb as of now in bulk qty.

Besides the above post there is one thing to keep in mind, some of these enterprise class drives come with a feature that makes them not work with typical sata power connector found in typical psu used in normal pc so need to use molex to sata adapter for such drive models (you can check out the details in my posts on page 9 of this thread).
My setup is mainly usff & nuc devices and they can't take in 3.5" disks.

Are these disks ok to use with some of those 3.5" inch dual-bay docks available on amazon ? I found one enclosure from orico but the reviews aren't encouraging.

What are my options if I need to use say 1 or 2 of these drives ?

USB external enclosures are not recommended for continuous operations, they will cause issues with the drives and may also corrupt data.
The 2Bay NAS I was selling recently is something that might be worth it. you can also look at other 2Bay NAS's on Amazon, please don't go with USB enclosures.

Thanks. I was thinking more along the lines of these products.

If these are equally bad in the long run, then I guess a dedicated nas build or an off the shelf nas is more preferrable.

Yes, they are bad. You can also go with something like Synology 4-bay NAS that went on sale on flipkart recently. Use it for NAS, connect rest of your setup using NFS/SMB.

Yes they are equally bad, Instead of going with Orico enclosure which is USB get something which is a proper NAS, as mentioned by @napstersquest there was a sale recently which bought the price of a Synology 4 bay nas down to 12K i believe which was really good value.

OT, but could you please point me to a few sources or explain why?

My reddit searches only talk about the end user being stupid or careless and not about the interface itself. I'm currently running such a setup and hence wondering.

Thanks.
