Haier Refrigerator cooling coil replacement

I have 9 years old Haier bottom mounted inverter refrigerator which is being used in a guest room. Couple of days back it suddenly stopped cooling completely. The Haier service guy came and checked and told that the cooling coil has leaked and needs to be replaced and would cost around 8K but he also added that it is not worth changing and asked to go for exchange as the refrigerator needs to be dismantled and the new coil needs to be welded back which is also very time consuming and few months later the problem may reoccur. Do I need to get another opinion as I am not sure if this service guy is interested in doing this job. I also asked him if it might be a oil leak or gas leak but he was just insisting that the coil needs to be changed. @blr_p what is your opinion?

Exactly I have an LG double door, 12 years old now. One day its compressor couldn't start and made a knocking sound when switched on. The repair guy told my father to get it replaced. I got back to my parents a few weeks later and opened it up, the compressor coils looked good (multimeter), the PTC relay, however, was charred, replaced the PTC relay and OLP combo (INR 250), and the compressor started but the cooling wasn't great I mean it worked just the way it had for the last few years but it wasn't the way I remembered it. I found the compressor details online (via model) and found out that it was a Resistance start, Capacitor Run motor (RSCR). So the cheeky ba**rds at LG had a compressor wherein if the capacitor was gone you had no immediate way of knowing that apart from the fact that the (auxiliary winding was never engaged) cooling capacity was reduced. Replaced the cap (It was gone, cost INR 55) and it works like new. You might not have time, energy, or inclination to take a look yourself but ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION.

I entrusted the refrigerator to another service guy and he was more reciprocative than the service guy from Haier, however the fault was the cooling coil and it was not available anywhere. This service guy did not give up and he welded the cooling coil where it was leaking as a temporary fix. He told that this is only a temporary fix and the coil might give away anytime and the refrigerator needs to be replaced. The cost of this repair was around Rs.1000/-. The refrigerator is working now but I could feel that the side panels are way too hot whenever the compressor starts functioning. Just waiting for the Amazon sale to replace this refrigerator. It is also sad to note that the manufacturers are making the products redundant by not making spares available after few years.

9yrs old. Chinese. No spare parts available. Why am I not surprised.

A number of videos on YT for this problem with Haier and all temp fixed it like you have.


^this guy seems happy. He managed to find a spare cooling coil part. He's from a village in Bihar not far from the Nepalese border. Closest this guy has is a tier 3 city for spares.

Stick to Koreans for your next fridge. They usually have spares for 10 years.
