Budget 71-90K Non-gaming laptop for work

Q. What's your Budget?
A. 90k max

Q. What will be your primary usage for the notebook be?
A. Office work. May involve multimedia so it should be able to play 4k videos without any issue. No gaming. But it should purely be performance stacked.

Q. What size and weight considerations do you have?
A. 15.6" n

Q. Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest?
A. DELL preferably.

Q. Any other considerations?
A. RJ45 LAN port is desirable, essential even. Only SSD. Should be light with long battery life. FHD screen is good enough. Light dGPU would be nice just in case. Good metal build. I have no idea about all these new "eCores" and "pCores" in new processors.
 
what you need is a mac equivalent if battery life is a concern, I would say to wait for SD Elite laptop prices to come down after a while, those would suit your usecase perfectly, despite what benchamarks are saying, light users like you wont even notice the performance difference in non-native apps, and if SD Elite is not an option then you either increase your budget and get a zephyrus or a legion 7i slim (best in class for windows imo) for 1.2-1.5L or you have your usual plethora of options for a 4-5 hour battery life.
 
If not gaming, you should consider AMD CPUs as they have great iGPUs and lower wattage than Intel so higher battery too.
"Efficiency" and "performance" cores are Intel's attempt to match the high core counts given by AMD cpus.

8GB RAM on a laptop at this price means you are wasting your money. I use MBP 16" with M1 pro & 16GB RAM & with multiple browser tabs & a heavy excel sheet open, it kind of starts lagging. Even devs & designers get annoyed by the 16GB RAM at times. Because Apple does daylight robbery, companies don't buy 32GB Macs.

Also, for me, Mac OS is inferior to Win11, and Win11 is not a good OS either. So there can be other people who won't want a Mac because of OS.

Additionally, repair cost are scary in case something goes bad god forbid. A colleague had to pay 63k for MB reaplacement when his M1 's charging circuitry went bad. I paid 3.5k for my gigabyte laptop after it stopped charging to a local laptop repair shop. Lack of a mature used macbook market in India is also sad compared to US/EU. If I were in US, I would totally drive a used macbook + used iPhone from ebay.

My brother has a M1 Macbook and the screen + battery replacement cost was like 35k.

Lol, i do agree bro. My elder bro got M1 MBP 16" with 64 GB ram from his company n he says that's less. he showed me 53 gb used of 64 gb. Though, his use case is very heavy. value proposition is not good for any mac compared to windows.

Also, i'm on same train of Windows, but i use arch BTW.

Linux(Productivity) >>> windows(Gaming) > mac()

Dell is overpriced & their build quality nowadays is also not as good not to mention they charge around 7k for 2 years extended warranty incl ADP which is a must have for any brand laptop nowadays unless you only want to rely on your luck after 1 year of purchasing the laptop. Also, you won't get rj45 port in most non-gaming/light weight laptops nowadays.

They have issues with parts as well it seems.

My father has an old 2018-19 bought XPS 13 which had a rubber like material around the keyboard, which surely won't last in Indian climate, became sticky. Wanted to get it replaced, was not getting parts. Service Centre said it might take months. Bought wallpaper & covered the rubber area.

My cousin has an Inspiron 2 in 1 laptop bought in 2021, its hinge broke after years of normal usage. Again Dell service centre is saying that it might take months to get the part, got it repaired locally (they did DIY fix).

I have Alienware m15 from 2019, it had its battery & heatsink replaced in 2 years, now usage is low so working fine.

I also have a Dell 7559 from 2016 which is with a relative now. Its KB & battery were replaced, else it is still working fine after all these years. So these days I avoid recommending Dell, anyways they are overpriced now.

apparently Macbook Pro display costs 2.5 times of an Air for replacement.
this has made me realize that if someone i buy a mac, its gonna be a normal air one and not any of their pro series.
as much as I like how good these laptops are for work usage, these prices are just outrageous.

Hopefully Snapdragon's processors are here to stay and one day could stand as a viable alternative for a work battery beast laptop.

Lunar lake already seems to be giving Snapdragon a run for its money in the battery department. Hoping, the fight among Snapdragon, Lunar lake and Strix point and their successors rejuvenates the ultra portable category.

really? I thought arm had the advantage of x86 because of how low power consuming chips they are from the get-go. Is there any lunar lake laptop available in Indian Market right now? kinda wanna go to their distributor and test it myself.

Edit - Looks like asus zenbook S14 lunar lake and Yoga slim 7x snapdragon are both available for 1.4 lacs.
