I am hesitating to go ahead and install the 24H2 update on my system - considering all the worrisome issues that are still cropping up each day on various tech sites.

I have not yet recd the official notification of 24H2 [I have Win11 Prof, licensed on i5-13600K] which puzzles me as to WHY? :nailbiting:

Notes:
1. Not faced any instability issues at all on my Raptor Lake proc.
2. BIOS is F10 [Gigabyte Z790 UD AX with Wi-Fi 6E] - All Default Settings
3. Latest BIOS F12 [Sept 27, 2024] not yet installed
4. Are there any other compatibility issues on my system?
5. Is 24H2 still being released in a phased manner?
6. My system is ON/Sleep Mode for the past 45 days [not shutdown as I have a problem with my cabinet On/Off button]
lastly
7. If and when I receive 24H2 update should I go ahead or wait till December!

Well i would recommend do a fresh install of 24H2, as if you update it will bloat the windows space and slow it down. I am using 24H2 and its working fine, i am using the moded version details for which were shared on another thread on TE itself.

24H2 update is being released in a phased manner.
Still you can enable Get the latest updates as soon as they are available in settings / Windows update.
You may receive the update on priority.

If your device is in safeguard hold, you may not receive the update till the issues are sorted out.

Check here how to check that

Windows 11, version 24H2 known issues

To check for any compatibility issues run PC Health Check app (Type in search bar PC Health Check)
On Top it shows Introducing windows 11. Lets check if this PC meets system requirements.
Click Check Now. It will show any compatibility issue for upgrade.

A reported issue with 24H2 is blue screens with certain WD SSDs (like SN770, SN580). Not sure if SN850X is affected.

There is a registry fix, but I would wait for an update before upgrading if you have the affected models.

What do you stand to gain from the update ? Is there a new feature that is coming in 24H2 that will improve your workflow drastically? Acc to rumours M$ has reduced its testing staff and just treating their user base as unpaid testing interns. If no, dont fret over it, let it come, you can install it when it comes, until then let other guinea pigs do the testing.

UPDATE:
24H2
My system (i13600k on Gigabyte Z790 UD-AX with G.Skill DDR5 6000 Mhz on stock| WD Black SN 850X) is BRICKED
face-orange-frowning
after 24H2 installation. "Stop code: SETUP_FAILURE".

Now I cannot even Power-ON my PC.

I had waited patiently past 2 months until Microsoft officially made this update available for my system.
Now I am stumped & frustrated - both with Intel & Microsoft!

Note: My PC Case ON/Off button is not working for past year & using the reset button since then, now even that is DEAD. Meanwhile I have ordered a PC External Remote power switch (arriving today). I pray that 24H2 has not caused any permanent damage to any of my system components.

Highly unlikely a Windows update will cause hardware failure. A corrupt install/MBR is probably the cause.

Have you tried powering on your PC using a good ol' screw driver?

Just to clarify, does this mean:
1. The motherboard shows no signs of life (no LEDs/fans etc)
2. The motherboard turns on but no display/BIOS splash screen/Windows boot animation
3. The windows boot animation starts but fails with a BSOD (with the stop code you described)

If its (1) caused by a power button issue, just use a flathead screwdriver to jump the power button pins on the front panel headers.
(2) is most likely a hardware issue, but unlikely that a Windows update caused it.
If its (3), might be a corrupt install/failed update.

1. The motherboard shows no signs of life (no LEDs/fans etc) - YES .... This is the scenario :nailbiting:

I have spend over Rs 2L on my high-end system with 64GB DDR5 & this is positively my last build (over the past 25 years & 4 systems!!) ..... so ruing my decision to try this 24H2 update [ the BSOD's & probably causes - are still cropping up every day - I may have some of those handicaps - like a WD SSD drive SN850X; the Gigabyte Mobo Z790 UD AX DDR5 - where the latest stable BIOS F12 refuses to install; and the dreaded i5-13600K and dunno any other hardware too on my system]. There are "tonnes" of videos on youtube offering turnarounds for BSOD's ..... PROVIDED ONE CAN GET THE SYSTEM ON AGAIN!!!

I am hesitant to try this option on my own "use a flathead screwdriver to jump the power button pins" - simply because my case "Powers On" vide some bypass on the Mobo pins and ONLY the "Reset Button was in use to power on - with a Ballpen" - which does'nt work today.

This is what I am looking at to do this weekend with help from a hired techie friend:
1. Somehow GET MY SYSTEM POWERED ON IN SAFE MODE.
2. Roll Back the bloody 24H2 failed installation if my MBR is not screwed already!
3. Connect this device I just got from Amazon (so that I can get my system running again)

Verilux® Desktop LED Computer Power Button PC Switch External Power Switch

[Although I do have 2 spares but never tried Silverstone ES01 2.4GHz Wireless Expansion Card & power & reset remote switch PLUS a Golden Field switch too as these are over 6-7 years old]
4. BLOCK all further updates on my licensed win 11 pro ( for the next few months!!)
5. Figure using some PC Health/Diagnostics to scan my system for "compatibility issues with 24H2"

I had no issues at all with my system until I attempted this 24H2 update on 08/12/2024 & my system is rarely shut down for months together [always in sleep mode + all windows updates till a fortnight had no issues.}

Will update y'all .......

Now I hope to live through this worst nightmare of my life today in computers for the past 40 years of my using Macs & Windows (all high end at my work) & home too - I have retired today & how Intel & Microsoft have ruined it as they keep rushing & pushing the barriers of power & speed without adequate testing.

Just touch metal screwdriver with the 2 PW pins. Its very easy. Motherboard doesn't care about case. This will verify the problem without waiting for button to arrive.
Maybe you just got unlucky and button failed at the same time.

Does the system boot from a USB flash drive ?

Maybe disconnect all HDDs/SSDs first.

That should tell you if it's a hardware prob or a Windows prob.

Why don't you use something like this (pic) ? That's from a old cabinet.

Ok now this
[Incidently I have to disconnect my printer now EPSON L6170 - as I begin my roll-back of the failed 24H2]

Windows 11 24H2 is now incompatible with USB scanning devices, tooHow are so many bugs getting past thousands of beta testers?

and then a fix ...... but but but ... damn

Microsoft lifts Windows 11 24H2 block on PCs with USB scanners

Microsoft is extending security updates for Windows 10 beyond 2025 if you're not ready to move to Windows 11, but you'll have to pay for that support. It'll cost businesses $61 per device per year and education clients just $1 for the first year; it's $30 for consumers for one year.

soon M$ will force to make it free as regular update if Windwos11 system keep failing like this after updates (who will dare to install windows11)
