The Snapdragon 8 Elite has a new Oryon CPU that's made for phones. It has 2 Prime cores that can go up to 4.32GHz and 6 Performance cores that can go up to 3.53GHz.

The upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (Snapdragon 8 Elite) features Oryon cores, deviating from the traditional Cortex cores used in previous generations. This shift is expected to yield significant improvements in efficiency and processing power, as demonstrated by the successful integration of Oryon cores in the Snapdragon X Elite for laptops.

Xiaomi 15 will be the first device to launch with this processor.
Consequently, there is a strong likelihood that the S25U will exhibit improved battery life compared to its predecessor S24U.

Comparing Antutu scores between Snapdragon (Android) and iPhone chips is like comparing apples and oranges. They use different technologies for their GPUs, so it's not really a fair comparison.

Yeah, the Gen 4 is definitely powerful, no doubt about that.

Always with the shifting goal posts with apple... How about fps? Is that a good enough comparison?
I'm not a fanboy or anything, but I just want to say that AnTuTu is not the benchmark we should use to compare Androids and iPhones. Geekbench is the closest we can get when comparing the two chips.

I know this is almost 40% faster than the 8 gen 3 and it will have a great gaming experience too.
 

Insane efficiency increase over SD 8 gen 3, BIG core ST efficiency close to Apple A16 pro, still lower than A18 pro, MT efficiency/performance better than A18 pro. little cores still lagging behind slightly, but absolutely obliterates Apple in GPU efficiency/performance. Real world gaming testes show it consumes fewer watts compared to iPhone 16 pro in most scenarios.

This being Qualcomm, you can expect them to charge a premium for it, so flagship prices will go higher yet again. Have to see whether it can make its way to mid-range devices.

the new mid range these days is 40-50k ;) anyways you dont need such a powerful processor these days, its wasted on mobile phone, same with Apple's Bionic series, I'd rather have an ultra-efficient performer which can double my battery life than this.

These are all things that you can do already on Android using third-party apps and the experience is not that great. DeX itself is something you would use in a pinch and not something you'd use because it is is highly productive or enjoyable.

With respect to the battery, it is good to see the energy density increase but Xiaomi batteries have a history of degrading much faster than others, not that this is the first time Xiaomi is selling devices based on spec sheet than practicality or reliability.

Most third-party solutions for creating a VM on Android need root access, which isn’t secure, and the experience is clunky. Google’s native solution is a game changer—Crostini on ChromeOS runs great, and the Android version has a GUI and full hardware acceleration for near-native performance.

Google’s improving native windowing, which should make DeX better. Only a few phones have USB 3.1 with display output support, but this should improve with Android 16 and newer SoCs offering better sustained performance. I’ll be able to boot a Debian GUI VM on my phone, connect it to a monitor or TV via DisplayPort, and enjoy a true desktop experience for productivity.

I haven’t noticed any significant battery degradation in any of the Xiaomi phones in our family, starting from the Mi3 (2014) - Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 5, Redmi Note 6, POCO F1, POCO M2, POCO M6, POCO F5 and recently POCO F6. Anecdotal experiences don't hold much weight unless supported by data. Given they are the highest selling brand in India, a certain percentage of units will inevitably encounter issues.

What! it is THE Best solution available on any mobile platforming across all manufacturers to convert a mobile into a desktop...if you want a 10/10 experience that's not available in the real world...but amongst the available options it is THE best by far

Just going by personal experience of using several DeX devices in the past, it is not something you'd use because it increases productivity or anything but something you'd use if you need a desktop experience on Android, which is not for a whole lot.

It is good that Google is providing native integration but again those who are serious about completing productive tasks would at any time use a dedicated device much better suited to the purpose.

Google can try converging devices but it will continue to be a novelty feature than a practical one if you have to connect cables and peripherals. If you go that route, even the M4 Mac Mini makes more sense as a mini PC.

apple user talking about different cables and peripherals hindering smooth integration and user experience!! ...in my office I see those who have opted for apple device carrying x number of bundles/wires/convertibles etc just to put up a presentation...you are citing the reason for cables as the reason Dex is not useful and you are vouching for apple while doing that...ah the irony

apple is the gabbar villain of selling unnecessary peripherals for years althogether just to make money and make people's life harder - remember the lightning cable (which broke every 6 months) instead of just using the usb c cable - regulators had to step in as apple loved its useless peripheral money so much

I use a tablet as my primary device. It works for me as I have access to many VPS and dedicated servers. I see all above will significantly improve my experience. Faster compute, closer to desktop experience will also help poor who can only afford one device to learn. A 10-15k device can be their phone, their learning pc and their dedicated IDE. 50K is a large sum for them.

I completely agree. Dex is mind blowing. If you don’t pay attention and don’t switch to classic Dex mode, experience feels limited, but the classic dex is as close as it can get to using MacOS if not Windows. Works with almost all peripherals and dongle. All you need is a USB C hub.
