Other Anyone used a UV glass screen protector?

The only secret to success is...
Enclave Plus
Galvanizer
Hello,

So this is one of those 'probably should have posted before doing it' but you should know I'm the jump first and look later type.

Anyway, I recently bought and installed a 'UV glass protector' on my phone. Basically tempered glass that sticks on to the screen with UV cured glue.

Has anyone used this here? Any issues? I'm particularly concerned about how to peel it off and whether it will damage the screen. (Yah I did do a basic bit of searching and what results I saw, did not mention any screen damage.) But still posting here for 'real' reviews.

So, anyone had any personal experience with one? Do sound off.

Thanks for your time.

Have to be applied with caution and make sure the gel doesn’t enter grill or block mic.

Peeling off is very easy. Waste of money as it chips or cracks easily.

As @blr_p suggested, IPA is the best way to remove the UV glue.
The UV screen protectors are not worth it. They can damage components if the glue seeps through and don't offer any protection at all compared to tempered glasses on flat screens.

If you have a curved display phone, it is a given that you have to be generally more careful when handling it as the options to protect its screen are more scarce. I usually stick with a simple screen guard to avoid scratches and I rock an old-fashioned leather flip cover to keep my screen relatively safe in case of accidental drops.

WorthWrap on Instagram is a good store if you have a model with few options available in online marketplaces. They custom cut and send screen guards on demand.

One has to be sure that the glue does not overflow and get into crevices or earpiece/mic. I had one installed myself over curved screen of Galaxy S9+ and it performed okay with cautious use. The thing is, good ones are not that cheap and you really can't do anything to fix, once the sides/borders start to detach. In short, avoid them if you can.

What concentration of IPA is safe? 99% or less? I've got a broken UV screen protector on my curved screen but worried about removing it.

have you used them? I'm sick of getting my display laminated because of the lack of tempered glass, if their hydrogel screen guards are of quality, I would not mind ordering a couple from them

I am currently using one of the matte variants on my phone. I changed the last protector after 4 months of usage (also from WorthWrap) because it started peeling off from the edges—pretty decent longevity given the price and lack of other options for Honor accessories in the market. Functions great though, have played FPS games on the matte protector as well, and no issues with touch detection or brightness whatsoever.

Such brands are a hit or miss in my opinion, sometimes you get what you order, and other times you don't. I had no other options for my Honor device so I went with it and it serves my purpose. It's ₹200 for the protector iirc so taking a chance and ordering one on COD makes sense regardless.

if their hydrogel screen guards are of quality,

This is the current matte protector from WorthWrap, I applied it around 50 days ago but 'effed up on the top corner by applying too much pressure while dissipating the air bubbles so it curls the other way... T_T

Not really.
What you posted are LEDs specifically designed to emit EM waves in UV spectrum.
Makes absolutely no sense for manufacturers to use to display visible spectrum.
The LEDs used for visual display would hardly have any UV spectrum.
This is not a heated black body radiation that carries all EM spectrum with varying intensities.

You have a point. But fact of the matter is the glue on such screen protectors remains liquid until it is cured with the included LEDs, so something is happening.

Not an electrical engineer so I have no clue except to go by the packaging and what YouTube tells me. :D

I've never heard of 'hydrogel' screen protectors before. Because I've never owned a phone with a curved screen and consider myself fortunate that way.

They've been out for a while. But the con is they need regular replacement because of grime buildup which affects visibility. Like every three months as mentioned in the review below. So you're going to need more than a couple if you plan to keep your phone longer than six months.

When tempered lasts for years this isn't a great option unless yours are limited to begin with

The video covers film, tempered glass and hydrogel screen protectors. But UV protector is different

UV ones come with a separate little tube of liquid, watery glue which you have to apply before putting the protector on and then 'cure' it with the included 'UV LEDs'. The advantage being apparently tempered and hydrogel protectors don't work that well with curved screens; peeling off in a few days. Whereas the UV protector ones don't have that problem.

Included small uv led kit is not good. Tried twice and drying took some time. Some places were still wet. Now I don't prefer curved screen phones. Shop one uv chamber does a better job.
I prefer hydrogel (like the ones included in realme phones at factory). I still have that on even after 2 years.

Yah I also tried hydrogel for the first time and really liked the fact that a matte option was available. However, due to curved screen, it started peeling off on the second day itself. If it wasn't for the peeling I would have stayed with hydrogel only.

only issue is, I cant find any vendors that do sell hydrogel :/

Try a different brand of hydrogel
