Replacing the whole motherboard because of a faulty GPU seems pointless. Eventually, you will face the same problem after a few years of usage. Best is to replace the GPU chip with the new one. :D

"by reballing a new chip, did you mean replacing the present one with a new chip? didn't know that's also done." Yes, that can be done too. The replacement chips are very cheap to buy. You can find them on ebay.com very easily.

Look for disassembling videos of your laptop model on Youtube. I'd suggest you ask someone who is experienced with disassembling laptops. All the best.

Common problem with Dv series which has ATI/Nvidia graphic chips. Reflowing/Reballing may solve your problem temporarily, say about 2-3 months. Recommended to Reball a new chip and make sure the exhaust vents are not clogged with dust or lint.

I jumped from Redmi 1s to 1+, the screen size is something about getting used to. After a week or so, it feels normal. The sandstone back is something you wont find on any other phone, and it feels nice to hold it. The 5.5 inch screen helps when watching movies. Batter life lasts more than a day...

If you're into rooting and customization, go for redmi 2. It has amazing support for custom roms.
