I was trying to make a head massager. The bass vents etc made me think it had potential. I used to have a sony mdr xd200 which was very nice on that area.
Sadly this starts to clip as soon as some decent bass power is applied. My xb 950/900 are far better

The sub 1k dac segment is really intended for phones without a 3.5mm port. You will not see any difference if your phone has a decent onboard sound. The gold standard for a usb c DAC is the apple 3.5mm dongle.
It's been measured to have great performance beating many 10k+ DACs.

And to add to that, if you buy a known popular model, you can use an app like wavelet to apply a calibration file using auto EQ to remove the remaining 1.99999999% gap.

Update: bought Lenovo L27I-40 mostly for cosmetic reasons. It's fhd, ips, cheap and most importantly, silver. (My entire stereo rack is silver)
