    The Samsung Galaxy S thread

The reason why cars have plastic bumpers is because it's cheaper to replace a plastic bumper than a metal bumper. And this is in recognition of the fact that bumpers are put at the exact parts of the car which are most likely to get dents and scratches. If we go by your logic, why are cars not...

Samsung Galaxy S. User experience, The good,The bad and The ugly! (6.5MB pic warning)

Re: Samsung Galaxy S. User experience, The good,The bad and The ugly! (6.5MB pic warn ^ Excellent review. Even though I only played around with it for around 10 minutes, I had the same exact impression. Unfortunately for me, the build quality and the poor look of TouchWiz were dealbreakers...

    The Samsung Galaxy S thread

Bubble wrap works as protection not so much because of the fact that it's made out of plastic, but because it's got air pockets in it. Metal bodies in phones are 100% more durable than plastic bodies - whether it's normal wear and tear, or even if you drop the phone.

Wanted: Touch-screen phone - pls advise! budget 25k

I agree. The two major faults with the Galaxy S are 1) Samsung's UI is really bad to look at and 2) the build quality is really bad for a phone of that price. It's like a plasticky iPod. Other than that the phone seems kickass by all reports. But those two flaws are complete dealbreakers for me.

Froyo Rolling out on HTC Desire this weekend!

^ I don't think the legend has got froyo yet.

Froyo Rolling out on HTC Desire this weekend!

Use Google, read up on it - it's quite a major update.

Where can I find an HTC desire in Bangalore?

Yeah, could you explain why the orange / t-mobile ones are undesirable? (pardon the pun)

Froyo Rolling out on HTC Desire this weekend!

^ what I mean is that the Desire was delayed from end of may, to end of july and now to second week august, and I hope that this last delay was only because they are going to sell the Desire here with Froyo, and not that come mid-august they say October.

    Need high-end Android phone

^ If it's around the same price, I would rather go with warranty than without. Their after sales service may be bad, but in case the phone goes completely kaput, at least they would replace it. In the grey market, I would just be out 25-26k, which is not a small sum for me.

XT720: not considering because of the processor. Overpriced IMHO. Xperia X10: It doesn't even have eclair? Out! I think I will wait to see if the HTC Desire is being launched in the next couple of weeks, now that Froyo is supposed to roll out in a matter of a week or so. Otherwise I will...

Froyo Rolling out on HTC Desire this weekend!

Re: Froyo Rolling out on HTC this weekend! This is fantastic... hopefully HTC has delayed the launch of the Desire in India only for this reason.

    Need high-end Android phone

Too expensive, and it's locked (O2). Would rather get a sealed pack (factory unlocked) from the UK for 31-32k. Or wait till it released in the US and get it for 25-26k from there. Wonder what the price in India is going to be. I think around 30k.

    Need high-end Android phone

Hmmmmmm, maybe I should wait for this: Dell Streak India Launch in October ? If they Froyo this bad boy, it would be the perfect device for me! 1GHz, 5" screen and Gorilla glass! Awesome! Plus I would trust Dell to come up with timely updates more than I would trust Samsung or HTC India...

    Need high-end Android phone

^ I think one of the other differences is that whoel Google search / navigation by voice thing. I don't think (IIRC) that the Desire has it. Other than that the obvious difference is that the Nexus One has a trackball and the Desire has a optical trackpad - though I have not been able to find...

    Need high-end Android phone

I think where the Sony Ericsson models fail is that they are not multi-touch (AFAIK). Motorola XT720 has low RAM and a much slower processor. I don't care about the camera. It really is between a Galaxy S and waiting till a better phone comes out / someone coming from abroad can get me a...

    Need high-end Android phone

What's curious is that they are trying to present it as if super LCD is better than AMOLED. While I don't know which one is better, it begs the question why did they not use Super LCDs anyway in the first place?

    Best deal for Nexus 1

^ are you sure that HTC is going to stop manufacturing it? I got the sense that basically Google won't be selling it online anymore, and rather it will be available through service providers like AT&T/T-mobile (US) and Vodafone (UK), probably with service plans etc.

    Need high-end Android phone

^ This is the same nonsense I got (and have been getting since May). While it was refreshing to see a manufacturer actually quoting a date (as opposed to likes of Nokia that just say "we have no information"), the fact that they have got this date wrong since May till August now, completely...

    Best deal for Nexus 1

^ are you thinking about the Legend? The Desire doesn't have a protruding lower portion (or chin as it is called by many). It tapers a little at the rear towards the bottom of the phone, but I don't think it sticks out at the front.

    Need high-end Android phone

^ are there any options in terms of custom firmwares etc. to mod the Galaxy S? Also,I was reading there is no option to turn off Touchwiz - is that true? This was actually another problem - as compared to HTC devices, the icons and general UI seemed quite drab to me in the Galaxy S.
