    Can vouch for the dell 640M. Insane value for money. I got one about 6 months back. Specs - 1.66 Ghz C2D CPU, 1 gig , 8x dvd-rw, 14.1' 1440 900 ultrasharp screen, 80 gig SATA drive. Bought it for 32k that time. Worth every single penny.

    My friend uses his toshiba laptop some 4 year old with 2.4 ghz intel p4 cpu and 256 mb ram and it still looks brand new. And the battery runs like its fresh out of factory...holds power till 2.5 hours. guess you just had a bad experience personally.
