Guys,could you bring out the difference among 50mm primes from canon & nikon. I understand for similar price, canon can AF while nikon cannot. How much difficult is it to focus manually in terms of speed and accuracy?

For video, consider sony slt or nex range. Few panny models also offer a.f. during movie though not sure of models. I am not sure but current reduction in canon prices suggest that nikon d3100 might be launched pretty soon next month.

Hmmm.....so my doubt about performance of entry level dslrs wrt shutter cycle was true. It seems that shutter can fail prior to that 50k mark as well! Anyone who has experienced or come across such a problem? Also do manufacturers cover this under warranty if shutter fails when shutter count...

thanks funtoon & apollyon for information. it seems nikon scores more here than canon for similar class of cams. perhaps, shutter life also depends upon several other factors such as handling and care of the equipment. I wonder why manufacturers don't give this figure openly for all their cams.

friends each and every dslr has its shutter cycle count i.e. average no of exposures a shutter can take in its life span.if i am not wrong, for nikon d5000 and d90 it is of 100000 cycles.i think this varies with models as well. can anyone point out as to how much is it for canon eos dslrs?:huh...

@saayan: seems you are getting confused in selecting your first dslr. Its obvious with your budget as there are several offerings available with new additions being done very recently. IMO, as its going to be your first dslr, all are going to give you good images as long as you know how to take...

Given the choice , i would pick 500d over d5000. Its a good overall package. Both are capable cameras, its canon that as a brand has edge in race. Do let us know of your deal.

@ravi.r.raj : you can buy a dslr with kit or body only.kit means general purpose lens that every manufacturer offers with a dslr at a cheaper price. For starters kit lens offers a good learning platform. Purchasing dslr without kit does mean buying body only and not opting for the offered kit...

You should take it to service centre and know their opinion. I feel they will guide you on this matter though ur problem might not be covered under warranty.

@shaunak: there is price difference of 6k between 450d & 500d as mentioned on canon india website with same kit lens. If you have experience of slr then you should consider either of the two over 1000d.
