    PC Peripherals Good Server Config

Another thing, do you want to assemble your own server or do you want to buy one off-the-shelf? Please understand that servers are a different breed of animals and they have their own peculiar needs and problems. As Aces asked, let us know what will the server be used for mainly. File server...

    PC Peripherals Good Server Config

Unless you define "reasonable budget limitations", it would be really difficult to suggest anything for you. Would you say 75K is reasonable? Most good, robust, scalable servers are in that range.

confirmed -- Mac OS on Intel Platform now

Oh, Apple has a lot of proprietary tech sitting inside the Mac. All the OS has to do is to check for existence of any one of them and poof, no Mac OSX in the Indian PC (or any other one for that matter). But if it can be pirated, then it will probably do more good to Apple than to anyone else.

Graphic Cards XFX 6600GT AGP Heating Problem

I had the same problem with my XFX 6600GT AGP. I had even posted a screen shot "on that other site" where it shown the temp peaking at a whopping 96 degrees! My eyes bugged when I saw that, I can tell you. There was a suggestion that I change the cabinet instead of using some fancy coolers and...

confirmed -- Mac OS on Intel Platform now

At the end of the article: Well, this means that we Wintel guys will still continue to be Wintel. For a moment there, I thought "Wow, now I can run OSX on my PC!". I can't understand the logic behind this decision. Allowing any PC to run Mac OSX would generate huge sales of the OS itself...

    Graphic Cards Crossfire benchies..

The Futuremark Hall of Fame still lists Shamino's record of 14623 as the current record, so the Crossfire claim of 15498 is either not submitted or is not recognized by Futuremark. Check here

    Graphic Cards Crossfire benchies..

Well, there are two ways to interpret this. A single XT PE is slower than a single Ultra in all cases, at least in the test results shown on the site. Therefore, the performance gains shown by two XT PEs will obviously be more than the gains with two Ultras. For example, take the last benchie...

    CPU/Mobo COM port not working

Did you try to change the I/O range and IRQ for the ports in the Device Manager? There are several settings available in there and you can see whether one of them will work for you. Sometimes, I/O conflicts will disable the ports completely.

    Graphic Cards Crossfire benchies..

They seem to have tested only in Doom III, which was always nVidia friendly due to the OpenGL implementation. As the resolution/AA/AF goes higher, you can see the 6800 Ultra SLI marginally higher than the Crossfire. I am sure the gap will be even wider at 1600x1200. Wonder how it would look on...

CPU/Mobo ULI chipset is nForce 4 killer

Ah, a dream board for upgraders. With AGP and PCI-e on the same board, there is no need to bother with mobo upgrades when the decision to migrate from AGP cards to PCI-e cards is taken. I like it!! And it supports the older PCI graphic cards to boot...

Graphic Cards How do I get rid of artefacts in games???

@Nikhil, if you want to keep a track of your GPU temps, the best possible way is to download RivaTuner and switch on Harware Monitoring. This shows a neat graph of the GPU temp, ambient temp and a few more things. You can even record it for later display. The desktop right-click thingy will not...

    Intel Debuts Longhorn-Ready Platforms

Typical marketing talk. The real reason why the gigahertz race has nearly ended is, of course, the problem of heat being generated. Nobody seems to have found out any way to control the huge heating that takes place beyond 4 GHz. This reminds me of the IBM strategy when the 80286 was released...

CPU/Mobo Gigabyte to offer 4 card SLI solution

Just further down on the same page: Can you imagine what 32 GPUs will do to a game? We will probably need a 32 CPU mobo to do justice to that particular monster!!

    Project Looking Glass

Good find, NeXgen. Looks amazing. But it remains to be seen how fast it will really be. Java graphics are not so hot speed wise. All that eyecandy is bound to make the "experience" so painfully slow that we will probably go back to our native desktops after giving it a twirl.

Graphic Cards Best playable settings for GF6 series

Bit-Tech has done a good job of testing the GF6 series cards in SLI and single card mode and has come up with a "best playable settings" for different cards on different games. You can look at it here This should answer most of the questions regarding how high a card can go in a particular game.

Latest Netscape Browser Combines Best Of IE, Firefox

I read download.com's review of Netscape 8.0 here and found that NS8 is mostly bloatware built around the FireFox engine. Yes, compelling for IE users but not at all for FireFox lovers. And 12MB download for a browser? What a waste of bandwidth!
