Even if you go for a/b standard also will be just fine for internet usage. But to get better LAN speed as mentioned above get a g router. USB/PCI is your choice but if you are going to have adapther for each client then I suggest go for PCI, they come with antena which should help in reception...

Good guides above. If you dont overclock then possibility is less that PSU causing this freeze. But it may be PSU not working as expected( maybe not filtering the voltage accurately). Anything can cuase this. hit and trial is the only way to isolate the problem.
