can also consider the LG L226WQT 22" lcd. i just got one today as a temp replacement for my 24" lcd which is sent in for repair. nice screen i must say. good build quality, zero dead pix. price is 12,999 at croma.

your eyes may not see it, but there's significant difference in computing power required to process 1080p compared to 720p. anyway, i'm not saying cpu is definitely the problem, but a good possibility. i've set up several HTPCs before and have seen what CPU bottleneck can do to 1080p mkv media.

good chance that your cpu is not powerful enough to handle software decoding of 1080p media.. a dual core cpu with a min clockspeed of 1.8Ghz is usually the minimum recommended..
