I have pentium 4HT with x1300 ddr2,
I use mplayerc to play 720P mkv, which uses about 30% of my CPU usage.
When I try to play 1080P mkv file on mplayerc CPU usage goes 100%.
ANY HELP???
:(

Your HD file seems VC-1 content based. X1300 doesnt supprt VC-1 decoding..The CPU gets utilized to take this task & you are getting higher Cpu usage with 1080p..
Only ATI's HD2000/3000/4000 Series support full VC-1 decoding capabilities with UVD/UVD 2..

Coreavc will decode only H.264 content but what if HD Movie is in VC-1 coding, coreavc will fail there.. I think the same case is with him.. Let him Install & wait for results..:D:

I have a 3870x2.. how do i know if my HD video is being decoded by my video card or CPU... Do you have to install some package to have the video decoded by the GPU?

Use Tab key in KMPlayer to get statistics on screen or press Ctrl+J in Media Player Classic to get the same. Check CPU usage there. Btw, you need a codec that enables DxVGA (PowerDVD 7 Video Decoder does it for sure). You need to make sure that KMP or MPC uses the PowerDVD codec as well. There was a link to a guide by Bottle somewhere but I cant seem to find it.

Im afraid, Avivo engine cant handle mkv format at 1080p, try other format..Read similar query in other thread..:D:

which format you think will work?

i dont know any other.

good chance that your cpu is not powerful enough to handle software decoding of 1080p media.. a dual core cpu with a min clockspeed of 1.8Ghz is usually the minimum recommended..

but i dont think cpu is the problem, becuase 720P only uses 30% of my cpu usage.:)

your eyes may not see it, but there's significant difference in computing power required to process 1080p compared to 720p.

anyway, i'm not saying cpu is definitely the problem, but a good possibility. i've set up several HTPCs before and have seen what CPU bottleneck can do to 1080p mkv media.
