^^ yap, picked it up from home in singapore.. paid abt S$120 (Rs3.3k) for it.. 2nd hand :) the 690G chipset with a decent X2 cpu will handle 1080p no probs. i'd pair up the board with a X2 5000+ black edition, since it's pretty cheap and very energy efficient..

vivek's a happy camper now. he's taking over my popcorn hour ;) decided to stick to my HTPC instead, since a full blown PC still offers the flexibility and expandability that i need.

check out my HTPC specs in my sig bro. it will do just about what u need. a whisper quiet box that plays 1080p the way it should ;) btw, the biggest contributors to noise in a HTPC is usually the power supply or cpu fan. i find the default cooler for AMD X2 cpus to be rather noise when on...

get an Asus EeePC for 16k, and hook it up to a big external usb hdd for storage. low power consumption, plus no need to worry abt power outages since it's battery will easily last 3hrs :)

can use my signature htpc specs as reference for your setup. what i currently have is well able to play 1080p, Blu Ray rips without any problems. as for cabby, i'm using a silverstone SG01 Evo matx casing. here's how it looks like:

am using the cambridge audio 540R V3 receiver, paired with 2 x B&W 805S front, 2 x Usher S520 rear bookshelves and an old B&W centre speaker (can't recall the model number).. bought the 540R V3 from S'pore, cost me about S$1.2k (Rs 33k)..

well, there's not much point for the popcorn hour to have audio decoding for surround sound, since it's not meant to be hooked up directly to speakers, except for stereo analog setups.. for surround sound, most of us would prefer to use an AV receiver, which is what i'm doing.. the audio streams...
