dude if you really wana game then pick up a dual core cuz a quad will not give u that boost basically a quad core i used for 3d rendering and compositing cuz i use a quad for my 3d applications. other than that a dual core is more than enuf for gaming even though they fall under the same price...

a Jetway Mobo would be enough for your requirement also an AMD 4000+ would do the mobo and processor would cost aroud 5.2k and 2 gb ram should cost you 1.8k considering the gfx card the onboard is enough i've played COD4 on low setting with 800x600 and its enough old games like doom and farcry...

exactly what Funky dada said i my self use 3d max and game engines everyday in office so a good card that can support a heavy viewport is a must i feel.

Steam is just the 1st step to reduce piracy. also the update part is good cuz u dont have to hunt down the update and see if its the right one. i give steam a 9/10. :)

get your hands on XSI and if possible download the hammer editor tool works well with C++ i've tried bot navigation for teamfortress 2 but it was a failure. may be u can get lucky
