Amazon fire TV 4k or 4k max: reviews needed

With all the AI browsers coming in, people are going on whatever information is being thrown out by AI. Also the information given at that point of time may end up being generic and not specific which can lead to confusion and incorrect decision making. Lot of difference between local and global stuff and specifications also.

refurb firestick 4k regularly goes on sale for around 2.7k , just fyi

think thats the older version too (At least thats what amazon’s chat agent confirmed). the one I have bought, the chat agent said was released in Jan’2025. They have left the listings vague, possibly intentionally.

I would suggest trying out the ethernet adapter with fire stick for anyone seeing lags. It helped me avoid most of the lags that were there with wifi.

Latest firestick 4K has faster wifi than ethernet so it should not be an issue. The USB on firesticks is version 2.0 so is limited by those speeds.

It doesn’t matter how fast the wifi client is if the router/wifi network itself isn’t that fast. On a usb 2.0 ethernet adapter one should be able to get consistent & smooth 250mbps. To achieve the same on wifi you need at least 80Mhz channel width band on 5GHz with at least -60dBm signal strength in the location where wifi client device is situated.

Since we are being pedantic here and we are pulling a wire and want the fastest possible speed, it would be the best to pull the wire and connect a Wifi 6 access point next to the firestick. That would give the best possible speed and reliability that one could ever desire. In real world, it doesn’t matter. Wifi (from a reasonable distance) is good enough for most people who are watching Youtube and Netflix with the maximum bit rate requirements of 20-25 mbps.

Yes that would also work but added cost of wifi6 AP is much more than extra 2m of ethernet along with usb 2.0 ethernet adapter. My guess was that ppl experiencing issue with even OTT streaming over wifi are not even getting consistent 20-25mbps.

Btw, first impressions. Feels pretty snappy. Local media streaming is working flawlessly in testing and apps are also streaming great.

But the reason I was sceptical of fire TV was amazon ads and the default home is freaking filled with prime and mx player streaming suggestions with no obvious way to remove these. Anyone knows if I can remove these default recommendations on homepage? I would much prefer like an empty homepage with a background and my apps. Feels absolutely disgusting at this point.

If there is no way to clean home screen, I will either get used to it (I doubt it), my family will not mind it so much or will have to get a apple tv after all :frowning:

Don’t even press the home button. Just press the apps button (bottom left).

Honestly mate, that’s not a bad solution  …intuitively home feels so natural to me but fuckers will make me change my instincts now …

Thanks a lot…appreciate the tip.

Do you know any way of disabling or changing the screensaver too?

That also shows prime tv ads by default :frowning:

Settings>Display and sounds>Screensaver

I don’t get any ads though. Only pictures.

For Netflix 4k you need just around 30 Mbps speed. Its not the speed that’s the problem with wifi, its the connection quality given the high number of devices in the house using wifi these days.

I had some filter on AdGuard Home and all it showed was a black screen where these promotional ads appear. It was weird. I’d rather see these.
