Any recommendation for Gen 3 or 4 Nvme drives? Crucial P3+ Okay?

If it is dynamic pseudo SLC cache. Many older ssd models have static/fixed pseudo SLC cache so any time the data to be written to ssd exceed that cache size the performance will drop significantly. As per techpowerup database, 500GB BX500 has around 45GB SLC cache.

I don’t have personal experience with the bx500 or even crucial. When I last bought a drive, it was between wd black sn750 and samsung 970 evo plus. These were the best drives at the time. They are gen 3 drives and so is my laptop.

My target today is 2/4tb, 5 year warranty, maxed out gen 3 speeds and low power. That said, I will most likely buy a 2tb p3+ @ 6.5k when the opportunity presents itself. Will be last upgrade for the particular laptop.

The WD blue drive is newer and better than the p3+, no doubt, but I don’t think you’ll need it or benefit from it in any way. My opinion is based on gen 3 laptop and normal use.

As posted above, there are premium gen 5 drives available for 5k.

That’s odd. I have a BX480. Also 3 years old, with way more writes and a higher run time than yours. R/W are fine. Health is also pretty good.

It’s these drives

Yeah, who knows what’s happening to my drive.

Just look at my benchmarks!

You will never see those speeds unless you have two such drives installed within your pc & copy pasting between them at least a few dozen GBs of data consisting of large files (videos for example).

Don’t just go by the benchmarks. Copy a folder of video files with total size around 10-15GB from E to F & see how much avg speed it shows in windows file transfer dialogue.

Yes, I’ve done the copy paste thing speed is way worse like 10 to 15 mbps

If you are using large size files (like videos of 500mb+ size in a folder) then either something is interfering with write operations (some security software) or you may need to completely format your ssd to see if it helps.

Yeah, let’s see what’s happening that’s why I’m backing up all my data in cloud and then format both the disk.

Your drive is probably failing. Best to shift to another SSD and use this one in enclosure.

Why do you think that? I was thinking the same thing, but I’m not sure.

Even usb gives better write speed.

Yeah, that’s true. BTW what do you use for your movie collection?

I found a listing with 1 year seller’s warranty. Any others with a better warranty coverage?

I’m sorry I will not be able to help with this.

The retailer threads are very fast moving. Keep a lookout on that section and you will find all sorts of drives, choose which serves your purpose.
