Any recommendation for Gen 3 or 4 Nvme drives? Crucial P3+ Okay?

I’m thinking of going with crucial P3+ (link below). I will be using it for OS Drive and for all the Softwares. Also, please tell me about the best solution for archival purposes around 1 tb of data, consisting of personal photos and videos.

Here’s the link of P3+ : https://amzn.in/d/0PspXdF
I’ve HP Pavillion 15-ex2075ax, it supports on Gen3, but I’m going for Gen4 because not much of a price difference plus future compatibility.

Wait for freedom sale in Aug & get WD SN5000 1TB from amazon for around 5k, a better NVMe ssd than crucial P3/P3 Plus.

For OS and primary storage, I’d recommend to get either WD Blue (SN5000) or WD Black (SN770).

For archival purpose, I’d recommend getting a NVME Enclosure and pair it with a WD Blue/Black stick of whatever capacity you need. Once the drive is full, you can just replace the NVME drive with another.

avoid p3 plus, QLC nand.

Better get WD Black sn770 or wd blue, also Samsung 980/990 evo.

Okay, I think this would be the best, I’m looking for 1 TB and budget is also around 5k. Will there be any card discounts? I will try to find the card if I know before.

Preference would be wd blue/black and samsung 970/980

IMHO you’ll be fine with a p3/p3+, they both have 5 year warranty. The p3 is gen 3 and p3+ is gen 4. The gen 4 drive should max out your gen 3 slot. Don’t worry about future proof. For use with the laptop, save whatever you can upfront.

There were drives in the marketplace with warranty.

Freedom sale starting on amazon from 1st Aug with sbi credit card offer.

P3/P3+ come with almost half the TBW rating of WD SN5000 not to mention post cache speed of P3/P3+ is hdd level. Yes both these scenarios are difficult to be encountered by a typical user but why get them when a better ssd (SN5000) can be get for almost similar price in sale.

Hopefully. Seems like Amazon and Flipkart will be hosting discounts on SBI and HDFC cards respectively.

Other option is to search/get open-box/pulled drives from the TE classifieds or get them from local computer market.

I didn’t see any in the marketplace, Maybe I missed it. Can you link?

I’m new to the platform, can you tell me about what’s openbox/pulled drives? Where and how can I find them in local markets. Chennai and Banglore both are 3 and 5 hrs distance from my home.

Openbox means non-sealed package, and maybe product used for testing then never used again. Pulled means drives pulled from existing devices. Only get these if they have good health, ask for it if not provided beforehand.

I can’t say suggest anything about your local market, I live in North :). If that’s a hassle then just buy it from here, your account should be 30day old account, have 25 posts and with 15 active days then only you can marketplace access here. Check your account profile for stats.

Okay, BTW what do you see in the market place for now? Can you see anything like a good deal? I just want to know. Because I can see things in classified. But I don’t see marketplace any where.

I am in the same boat as OP. I have a dell latitude 7490 with gen 3 slot. It currently has a wd black sn750 1tb (4+ years old). I want to upgrade to a 2 or 4tb drive. For a laptop so old will go with the cheapest branded I find with warranty.

I think 2tb drives were being sold for 7-8k. With everyone dumping on the p3/p3+, they have hit a sweet spot in pricing. I would rather buy a larger drive than a premium drive for an old laptop today.

Under normal usage tbw will not matter. The extra speed will be waste for a gen 3 laptop. The p3+ will sip less power and max out the gen 3 slot.

All drives are just a little bit more. Green to blue to black.

classified is marketplace. Good deals come and go, you have to be proactive to struck a deal but can’t be helped when you are new on the platform, so for now you only get read-only access.

Ah, then still I saw the recent deals. Didn’t align with mine

Yeah, I was thinking the same, but still I will use it for my primary laptop so I will take WD now. I also have an Crucial BX Series SSD and it’s just the worst. Like it shows a health of 88% and R/W is just pathetic now, it was fine when I purchased it but now. It’s been like 3 years only. Let me share the image as well.

I am planning to buy Crucial T500 for my new pc. Best NVMe SSDs for PC It is performing well in all the Tests

Well, it’s out of budget for me. I’ve a strict limit around 5k. I’m also looking for a stat drive as well.

How much free space do you have on the drive?
QLC NAND drives keep up performance by using free space as pseudo SLC cache.
