I have APC1100va UPS which I had from 2021 which is OOW now I presume, suddenly powers off with Solid red light beeping. I use it for my TV and PS5 mostly. I don’t want to get it to customer care because I heard they will just ask to replace batteries that too infact 2 of them as per policy and the visiting charges will be 400 to 800 +18% GST for part replacement it will be additional charges and will cost almost same as new one. One of my other friend said that we can replace 1 lithium ion battery ourselves, just need to know the same config. Is this possible doing ourselves with no experience before ?
Red light usually points towards a dead or a dying battery. If you dont wanna ring apc you can get 7.2-7.4mah batteries at a nearby car/bike battery shop.
But if its powering down even when connected to main then there’s something wrong with the circuit.
How comfortable it is to replace a battery with little to no experience?
I was checking with the community forum and it says something related to Overload temperature problem
Also here check what apc ups beep light mean
I own 2 Numeric 600VA UPS, if the lead-acid battery goes kaput way below the nominal voltage, then there’s no other way than to replace the batteries. Usually, the old batteries will be taken for a price, get some new ones from a reputed brand!
I’m disappointed that its not even 3.5 years that I had to deal with UPS that too from renowned brand like APC. Its not doing the shutting down from past 2 days. So ill wait and see if something replicates the problem or not and decide what should be done next
Battery change is a must.As you are saying it’s 3.5 years old then it’s the time to change them.you can do it yourself.just open the screws and the battery holders then unplug the wires attached to the batteries and replace them with the new ones.just make sure to record the whole process or take images of the connections and the insides before doing anything. You may also see the videos of how to replace batteries of your model on youtube for better assistance.
If you don’t wanna go through the hassle of replacing it yourself, take it to the battery replacement shop. They will do it for free. Also if you are doubtful about pcb fault, they will try with their own battery first. If everything seems fine, they will put new batteries.
Thank you for your inputs. I got the 2 batteries replaced today but it was actually 7Ah battery only for 1000/- each in my APC 1100va UPS after exchange with old ones.
Shocking part is this UPS I bought is from a local computer store market area famous in our city back in 2021 and just today it to learn that it’s original Batteries are from 2013 ![]()
I was scammed from the beginning
Only shocking thing is that batteries manufactured in 2013 & bought in 2021 still lasted for more than 3 years. Now you know why APC charges a premium for its products.
P.S. I see that you got Exide batteries so a very important piece of information most people don’t know about. UPS batteries come under industrial products category in Exide & their after sales support is not handled by regular customer care/shops. You will likely have to visit a specific service centre in entire city if you want replacement. If you rely on your dealer to send & get replacement battery then too it will take much longer because typically dealer won’t send a single battery to such specific service centre for replacement.
My APC 1100VA batteries which are 2 got changed to Zebronics Batteries where the repair man initially agreed that he has APC batteries but installed these and came home. Again as we now live in village kind of environment it’s better to go to Chennai by train and buy new UPS than getting my UPS repaired by APC technician.
For each Zebronics battery they took ₹950 x2 and service charge ₹500.
I purchased from Exide Battery dealer only, I mean its a wholesale dealer who deals only with Exide. Gave a 1 year warranty on batteries so hopefully nothing should go bad
Warranty is tehre for such cases only as no product is 100% failure proof. I bought exide batteries 3-4 times but one time it failed within warranty & then I found out about exide ups batteries coming under their industrial product category having completely separate service centre & no help from their regular customer support. Though the dealer I purchased from took care of replacement but it still took almost 4 weeks but he was helpful enough to rent me another ups battery for around 200 rupees for those 4 weeks.
Though the repairman gave me 1 year warranty on the Zebronics Batteries he installed and I don’t have any choice as I need to either use these batteries or buy a new UPS.
The UPS is working good until now though which is good I think.
Next time I will buy either original batteries or Exide batteries or buy a new UPS.
I am using exide battery which cost me around 900-950 after deducting the old battery price given by shopkeeper & it lasts around 1-1.5 years. It is much more economical than buying a 1.8k priced new ups every time instead. APC original batteries cost much more but also last much more because of their quality as shown in an above post where batteries manufactured in 2013 but sold in 2021 still lasted for more than 3 years.
I have like 6 APC 600 VA UPS and 1 APC 1100 VA UPS and a couple of more 1600W and 2200W UPS, I think APC UPS actually does not work well with other brrand batteries. I have used Exide and Amaron and I had to change both of them in 1 year because of long red beep. The batteries cost me ₹850 each.
The CyberPower 2200W UPS does have a more tolerance with batteries and has not required any battery change in last 2 years.
I would love to know if someone knows a way to mod the APC UPS so that it does not complain about a weak battery or somehow has a bigger tolerance. Any thoughts?
I only need a UPS backup for 2-3 mins until my power backup kicks in.
