A two nanometer wafer was unveiled at Qualcomm. Companies are now designing end-to-end products in India. This is a major development for the country and for the industry.
Finally, some good news regarding India’s infantile silicon space. Hopefully a bunch of engineers learn from the process and build their own companies in the future.
This is great news for us and will be good in long run.
We are finally expanding from software sector to include hardware sector in worlds eyes.

Can someone please explain me how is this a big achievement for us (Indians) when Qualcomm is USA company.
The technology still lies with USA right and they can still stop our industry from growing and arm twist us like Jet engines and many other such stories.
So how does this help us.
I recommend reading press release to get a general idea about the project

Without going in details, one thing that I assume would surely help is the proximity of tech and talent.
As usual the press release is vague. Where is this 2 nm fabrication process based out of when the current state of fab units is -
The minister added that we have made a good progress - 10 units are under construction. 4 of them started pilot production recently. They are getting their products qualified, validated with the customers and soon we will have the first unit with commercial production.
Is this from one of the pilots ?
I think he meant designed in USA, software QA in India, manufactured in Taiwan, then imported in India to show to the politicians to get money.
There is no 2nm machine in India.
tip of the iceberg answer is , ease of doing what you claim, Semiconductors are not some tap that can be switched of so easily.. if they can setup a fab here for 2nm this will be project and investment of dacades. look at tsmc even if US funding and chip bill they still yet to setup fabs away from taiwan. although their prob is higher because of funding and talent pool and operational knowledge but still is a long and hard task.
todays announcement (with a big pinch of salt) if true. it may be max of research prototype.
we are looking at 10yr+ from idea to development to fab setup to product..
but optics ke liye announcement karna padta hai
