Many advanced (medically, no less) of upgraditis' have been detected in the crowd. Some are eyeing AM2’, but some (actually most ) are looking to go to the `Dark side.’ After all to truly understand the powers of the force, we must understand the dark side
Anyways, pleasentaries apart, lets get down to the real deal.
How do you plan to jump onto the `Conroe’ bandwagon. AM2 lovers, stay clear of this thread
As of me:
DFI’s ATI offering (RD600+SB650) / Intel Bad Axe Rev 304+
E6700/E6600 (budget wise)
2GB/4GB of some nice DDR2-1000 (eyeing Gskill 6400 kit )
X2900XTX/8800GTX (no SLI, single card)
And as for me, I will be sticking to my present rig. I guess the upgraditis bug has bitten Funky, you, Darky, Harshal, Adi and others… DJ is keeping a low profile… let’s wait and watch.
The issue for most will be DDR2 RAM. getting 2 GB quality is gona cost arm and leg.
Anyway my other concern is ocability of retail versions and its pricing.
If 6600 is not priced ok and does no oc well then there is catch 22 situation at hands.
All will depend on initial reports of the community once its launched. If the darn thing does not oc well then there is no need to jump onto conroe just yet, specially those who have oced their A64 systems in range of 2.7Ghz range. Sure it will still be faster but how much is an issue.. Lets see. All i am doing now is getting Quality DDR2 ram from US. Will buy rest later here only.
As for GFX card goes will decide only after vista is out.
ohh… you will wait for sooo long?? Wont you be bored of your 1900XT loong before that … … j/k.
But see, even if Conroe is not oc’ed so much, it will still beat a regular AMD by a decent enough margin.
And seeing these pros oc their Conroes like crazy, I feel that Conroe will oc well in general. Of course, I know that these guys get hand picked proccies… but still…
My plans…
E6600 if it overclocks well
Corsair Nautilus 500 water cooler
2GB GSkill/OCZ/Crucial DDR2 1k
DFI ATI RD600 mobo
Same video card I have for now.
Aditya, which water cooling unit are you getting? Sounds like you’re buying one locally, so curious about what is available… itdepot was getting the Swiftech h20-220 kit but now they tell me they’re not, so I need to get another that is available locally or wait until I go to the US to get the h20-220… would prefer to buy it here, however.
yeha i know but at what cost thats the question.
The 1 board that is compatiable is now priced well above 15k in indian market( still not sure if new revisions of Intel 975 boards has reached here or not).
DDR2 is uber expensive here.
And i still dont trust Intel with its marketing who knows how much these processors will end up costing.
Speculations are easy. Logic is what matters
As far as new GFX card goes. WTF i am gona do with DX10 card with no DX10 OS to test it on??? Push 20 more FPS in CSS???
all this mambo jambo confuses me…
karan is ur dad an astronaut? cuz he seems ****ING rich! lol
new upgrade every 4 months -.- i havent upgraded in 4 yrs
Trust me if you are in the graphics or simulation field the present proc and graphic card can improve 10 times and we may still yearn for more…
With the best present systems our renders are still not as fast as we would like to, viewports still lag and any kind of involved simulations still take ages to finish…
And as for the minor matter of gaming, newer games will tax the next Gen cards.
