1st lemme tell u me on a Dial-Up rite now
MTNL’s Unlimited Download for 700 pm.
I wanted to know if this new scheme (as they call it) is ny helpful for Me.
1st is DSL MTNL - PAY AS U USE:
1.No monthly charges
2.Charges for download - Rs.2 per MB…lol …who will take tht
Wont waste time nd will move on to the 1 which am interested
DSL NU - Night Unlimited
1.Monthly Rental Of Rs.590.
2.free Unlimited Download from 00hrs to 08hrs.
3.Free Download of 500MB from 08hrs to 24hrs
4.Extra Download - Rs 1.20 per Mb.
Now this is wht am looking at.
1.Is it better than wht am currently using??
2.Wht speeds will i get in this??
3.Whenevr i go out (like for days my comp is left on 24/7) , i thnk the extra download will come into effect here…but tht is Adjustable.
So lastly shud i take this…
BTW no1 offers cablenet in my area…so this is my last option…if thr is ny othr better …plzz feeel free to suggest.
taxes additional i suppose and are there any extra charges (like modem rental n all that u get with Airtel/BSNL bb?)
its good, but it’ll make i sit online all nite.. perhaps u cud use it for downloads only..
500MB is it daily? I dont think so.. it must be monthly cap of 500MB.
Once u cross that 500MB, if u browse between 8:01am and 11:59pm, u’ll have to pay extra.. U know how many hours (with in this time limit) u use the net so work out the math and then decide..
Depends on the service..
no idea
remember to do the math (after 500MB) b4 u download 24/7
well seriously think about that. How much time you are gona be on net after 12 in the night?
My daytime browsing is arounf 20-30MB/day. Thats almost 1GB of just browsing.
The unlimited night download is amazing if you ask me. It got me thinking of getting this as extra connection just to download at night as MTNL gives speed of 22-25KBps constant throughout the day.
And i plan to use my current sify during daytime. which costs next to nothing.
But only having this plan is not good for user like me who browse a lot and i think same goes with you.
Get Dialup meter software and observer your current daytime usage and then decide and keep in mind you will be browsing a lot more with the blazing speeds
Am mostly Surfing till 1 or 2…aftr tht its just fraggin …dont feel like watching words in the dark.
Hmm …if its giving speeds of 22KBps i mite as well sign up now…am getting max 6-7kBps .
Yup browse alot…
Getting Dialup meter now…Thnx Funky
not used this soft bfore…so will post ny Questions or doubts if any latrz. @Masky
Yup Tax is like 30-40buxs…currently in the 700 pm plan bill gets to about 1500 for 2 months…
My main problem with getting this connx is sufring in the day…cant miss tht
And i dont think they will be offering 500Mb daily…wont b hesitating to take it up if they do
Bout xtra downloading or surfin…wil use tht soft Funky mentioned…
But if am gonna get even 20KBps i mite sign up for it i think…
@ Funky..
Hmm…one more Question plz…
so if i go wit this plan , i will be able to play online finally rite
How much wud tht take account into for say like 5-6 hours of online play.
cant play online wit this connx..
PS:
DU meter already 3mbs in 10 mins…i surf for like 4-5 hours daily TOTAl …takin breaks nd stuff. DAmN
Hey I immediatly registered for the TriB 590 NU Night Unlimited Plan. One thing I don’t understand is 500MB ‘free’ download, is it 500MB download or 500MB download + upload? Cos if its donwload + upload then it’s not good at all..isnt it.
Secondly there is one Safe Custody Charge of Rs.100 per month. What the heck is this?? Seems related to customer premises equipment (CPE) but the the form clearly states Initial Deposit for CPE Rs.500, Monthly Rent for CPE Rs.80 and adds that these two are not applicable for customer owned CPE. The point is, there is no such “Not Applicable” condition for this Safe Deposit Charges.
Btw, they told me the installation will take time since they are only taking bookings at this stage. Hope they don’t have a change of mind!
Well i beleive it would be like this… Initial Deposit for modem Rs 500 and then monthley rental Rs 100 for the modem… so the Rs 599 plan would come out to be Rs 599 + Rs 100 + Service tax
So is it profitable for me to go for this from the current plan b tht am using…cuz the monthly payment i guess will go to bout 700 nyways but for the foll:
1.will get good speeds as much as 4 times am getting now.
2. drawback…500mb per month download …only thng is tht this shud suffice my surfing (nd i can finally get to play online) needs…
WHT say guys ???
No airtel here.
Only sify, tata, pacenet, exatnet, MTNL and one more which i cant remember is available in mumbai.
I have used all of them except exatnet. MTNL is at my friend’s place but their limits are stupid. Pacenet= useless crap. TATA= again too expensive and limits., Sify = terrific speeds and damn cheap.
but sify is usually not ment for gaming, coz first thing is that they block the ports and second thig is that even if u manage to get the ports opened, the pings are pretty high, day or night
none of the ports are blocked on Sify except port 6881. I personally checked man.
Those who has problems is because they do not configure windows firewall properly for TCP ip and UDP port excemption.
Here i am getting 18KBps on Bittorrent and upto 20Kbps on sharezza.
Not a single port is blocked including default ports, but as always you should never use default poers of p2p apps.
If you have Hathways service in your area then check out their 8to8 nights and full Sundays plan for 400/- monthly @ 256kbps. I have used this account for a few months and it has been very good. This rate is better than what MTNL are now offering. I use this account at night and during the day I use the same MTNL DialUp conx of 700/- as mentioned by Rocky in his first post above.
Hathway are NOT offering the 8to8 accounts in Chennai as I asked the Hathway people here for some in Chennai.
OMFG..I feel like crying of sheer happiness…for the first time I’m experiencing speeds above 6kbps. Ok first, I apply for night unlimited mtnl triband plan at 12.30pm, at 2.00pm I receive a confirmation call and 5.30pm I have a D Link Router Modem and 25 kbps download speeds…
Thats not always true. I am on Sify broadband too and all the ports were open initially. Once they installed a firewall at the server end, all the ports were blocked. I had to make a list of all the ports i wanted them to open up for me and they did it..
