Anyways, here is my configuration:-
Windows XP Professional
Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93 GHz
2 GB DDR 2 RAM
ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS motherboard
Plz suggest a good card for gaming. My budget is Rs.5000-6000
I am mostly interested in playing latest games like Call Of Duty 6, GTA IV, Assassin’s Creed, Split Second and other forthcoming new games.

AFAIK the mobo u have doesnot support DDR3 RAMS, then how come u have ddr3 rams !!!

First of all, thanks for the reply. I’ve seen some videos of different game on youtube played on those graphic cards, and have liked it pretty much.
Another thing, as I’ll buying graphic card for the first time, I have some noobish questions:-
SAPPHIRE HD 4670 1GB DDR3 – Does this mean that this card is only compatible with DDR3 Rams?
How is Geforce 8600 gt card? Is it better than those cards?
The DDR3 on the graphic card signifies what ram you have on the card…it does not have anything to do with the motherboard..
The 8600gt used to be a very good card in its time…but its age old now..the HD 4670 beats it with ease…
BTW what resolution do you play at?

I want to play at 1024x768 resolution mostly. Those card support those, right?

Get a HD4670 ~ 4.2k and a FSP SAGAII 350w ~ 1.5k. This falls under ur budget and sufficient for ur needs FSP is a major PSU OEM.
The PSU has a PCI-E power connector, 3 SATA power connectors and 3 4-pin power connectors IINM.
iball LPE223-400 is a cheapo 250w PSU though the name says 400. Dont add a GPU with that PSU.

Dark Angel advice is absolutely great, don’t save money, especially when it comes PSU.

I’ll get a HD4670 ~ 4.2k and a FSP SAGAII 350w ~ 1.5k. 
I’ll say HD 4670 over the HD 5670, the 1k more for 5% more isn’t worth it imho. Plus it isn’t like the HD 5670 can play any DX 11 game decently.
5%, please check your facts first and then post.
At 1024*768 the 5670 will be able to handle any game with all settings at max, in dx11. It’s also got a better video decoder than the 4670, and it’s more power efficient, and a lot more powerful, it’s close to the 9800gt in performance. You’ll get close to double the performance of the 4670 for a 1000 bucks more, so if it’s possible up your budget a bit, and get the 5670 and a decent psu.
Otherwise wait a month or two, nvidia seems close to releasing their new batch of mainstream cards, and prices may fall a bit.
Or get a used 4670 with some warranty left. For 4k it’s not a worthwhile investment, but for ~2.5k it’s not a bad card.
Guys plz clear ur misconceptions. The HD5670 512MB GDDR5 is ~25% better than HD4670 512MB GDDR3 at 1024768 or 12801024(typical gaming resolutions for these cards). Similarly the price of HD5670 is also ~25% more than the HD4670 ones.

I think there is a lot of difference between 5% difference and 25% difference, but still I think the performance difference is greater than 25% b/w the two, but anyways this argument is pointless as the OP clearly doesn’t have a budget to accommodate both this card and a well enough PSU to be able to run this card safely.
A 4670 will also do a very good job at the OP’s gaming resolution, HD4670 ~ 4.2k and a FSP SAGAII 350w ~ 1.5k = ~5.7k odd is a good VFM suggestion
Although If the OP wants to lower the amount, he could go for a second-hand 4670 for ~2.5-3k
