India has restricted imports of laptops, tablets and personal computers with immediate effect, according to a government notice on Thursday, in a bid to push local manufacturing.
“Their import would be allowed against a valid licence for restricted imports,” the notice said.
Back in school they taught us that India is a “developing country”. I used to think it’d be developed before I hit 30, it looks like we’re going backwards now.
Press F.
They’re already charging around 45% duty and now it will be even more. The coming generations are fucked. In about 10 years only the very rich can afford computers and the rest will be like “whats a computer? Can you eat it?”
And if you’re holding hopes of companies setting up laptop manufacturing hubs here, don’t. There’s no water, no reliable and cheap 24 hrs electricity, shipping costs a lot by road, no non agriculture land , bad highways and roads, bad govt, high taxes. Only completely retarded companies will try and fail miserably.
Yes, we now are backward developing country going back to stone-age where govt. is more interested in fighting on burkha, banning jeans, banning skirts in temples etc. and soon govt. will perma ban western wear, ev vehicles and we will be left only with langot, dhoti, kurta, chappals, and bullock-carts!
And soon India will be sold to Ambanis and India will be renamed to Jindia!
I’m not talking about cloth brands…but what if they ban people from wearing clothes at all
Not specifically about cloth brands actually. Shein was banned in India, then reintroduced through Reliance Retail.
It’s about how bans work.
Now, no problem with India banning laptop imports, wondering whether local companies can partner with good companies, for eg., FrameWork Laptops, etc. to introduce good products. It will be good for India and society altogether.
