Intel's new line up i7 & i9 CPU's

Intel is about to launch an anniversary edition(40th) i7 8086K @ 5GHz & a true beast core i9 with 28 coreo_O @ 5GHz sooner :).

You realise that the 28C 5GHz demo used phase change cooling right? The base clock of that chip is 2.5GHz.

Yes they have used phase change, water chiller!! I guess base clock should be a little higher, might be 4 GHz, still its uncovered.

Base clock for a reasonable TDP (say 250W) will have to be below 3GHz considering how much power a 7960XE eats and that is just 18 cores.

This is the same skylake-x in a different package so power consumption will be astronomical.

plus the power consumption of a 1 HP water chiller required to reach 5 GHz. :face_with_tongue:

Yup..agree on it!!

Think about 28 cores running at 5GHz..thats a massive power dissipation!! Even using the above config to a run a good server with 1 HP chiller is insane:banghead:

**Article Source: **Intel's New 28 Core Monster 5GHz Desktop Processor Is Most Powerful Ever

This article is by Antony Leather from Forbes Magazine.

Intel has revealed what could be a major challenge to AMD’s Threadripper 2 processors in the form of its most powerful desktop CPU ever. The yet unnamed CPU was revealed at the Computex trade show in Taiwan and during the presentation, the CPU appears to be able to sit at a massive 5GHz across all cores too and is due for release in Q4 this year.

The fact it can reach 5GHz at all is incredible, but across all cores will mean it’s not just very powerful but also one of the first CPUs in Intel’s line-up to reach 5GHz, with the first being the Core i7-8086K Anniversary Limited Edition.
The move will mean that Intel is introducing a 10-core, 20-thread jump from its current most powerful desktop processor

seems you are late to the party. this is old news and they were using aquarium chiller for this and it was stupid.

And btw, Threadripper 2 just broke the cinebench world record

BTW, small tidbit, I recently came to know that splave is nephew of my colleague who sits across the desk from me
