I have an
AMD XP 2400+
MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
512 DDR 2x256 @ 333
and stuff
Thinking of picking up an XFX 6600 GT AGP. Would it be CPU bottlenecked. Your advise on this.

CPU will be a bit of a bottle neck but I think you will be fine. Just make sure that you have atleast 1gig of ram.
I am kind of making that sure… How about a 512 MB Kingston stick…
oh well.. its decent enough.. but i wud prefer a Barton over the AXP.. plus 6600GT aint no over kill.. ![]()
^ ^ i think he already has the rig and buying only the card
Yup… Rave stands correct…
you have any old agp card ? .. might be interested in trading my 9600xt
well.. 6600GT is as good as or a tad better than 9800 Pro.. i have a pretty similar rig, except i can OC my CPU a bit.. and nobody says the CPU is bottle-necked for a 9800 Pro.. hence i wud say ur CPu is not a bottle neck for a 6600GT aswell..
2000+ XP is a bottleneck for a 9800 pro…
So maybe this might just fit in… as 6600 GT is around 5- 10% faster then a 9800 pro
radeon 9800por vs geforce 6600gt except in some games like doom3
occasionaly one wins over the other
overall:6600gt is a better
but if 2000is bottleneck for radeon 9800pro then even if it is 5-10% faster calculate it
2100-2200 is bottlneck.
also, for such a great card you may plan to upgrade your system later.
for games like doom3 6600gt is almost double the speed of 9800pro and even in others games its beats the 9800 pro.
6600gt also has sm3.0 shaders which are a generation ahead than on 9800pro ![]()
6600GT will beat 9800 pro in any game unless its limited by either bandwidth or raster ops. The two engines that come straight to mind are UT2k4 & derivatives such as republic commando (extreme amount of textures) and for the second case… splinter cell and its sequels (cos 6600GT can only do 4 raster ops/cycle).
Got a XFX 6600 GT for dot 11K. Would be posting reviews of both 6800GT and 6600GT soon.
congrats Switch…
except for few opengl games like doom3,pop
ot etc
both perform quite competently.
sometimes even radeon 9800pro deos win and many times there may not be too much playable diff b/w the 2.
However overall the 6600gt is still preferd.
radeon 9800pro is still 256bit.
