Mid end gaming rig for friend - budget 30k (Solved!)

I have decided on the configuration for a mid end gaming rig cum general purpose home pc for a friend of mine.

Components I already have - HDD & Monitor

Please suggest the rest of it and also let me know if this config is OK. So far the cost is Rs.19,135. Have 10k more approx excluding cost of monitor and HDD.

Case I have planned is NZXT Guardian for Rs. 4000 approx. So 6k more remaining. Case is not that important but preferred. Could go for Elite 310 series if other configs need to be changed.

Plz comment on the graphics. Is this OK?

AFAIK, you can cut down the cost in some area like Cabinet.

Buy NZXT Gamma @ 2.3k, it doesn’t look awesome like other, but its a 100% value as you can install bigger coolers, big fans, ATX mobo etc.. awesome value for a cabinet.

Spend the saved money to buy a FSP Saga II 500W PSU at 2.3K / or a better one.

and rest 6K to a mid-range graphic card like HD 6770 @7k or HD 6850 @ 10K .. HD 6850 will give you 10-25% more boost in some games.

what about the PSU? you should get a corsair gs600 or better i think

For PSU get a Seasonic S12II 430w ~ 2.7k from TheITWares or from Tirupati from ebay.

For GPU I would recommend a bump up to HD6770 ~ 6.5k. Do mention the screen size and/or the resolution of the monitor he uses.

Ya dont go for the costly cabinet.
Go for NZXT Gamma,it is total vfm and you can boost your overall performance by spending that money for GFX .

The monitor is Dell G2210 - 1650x1050 with DVI Cable.

This is my configuration so far. I am going to make payment for this. This is from Delta Peripherals in Chennai. Just want to make sure that this is the best price I can get online.

I am going to do a pickup from their office in chennai so I save on shipping cost.

I think u are forgetting something,the most important part…PSU.

So dont get the cheap ones,go for SEASONIC 430W POWER SUPPLY 80+ BRONZE (S12II430)

Also can anyone tell me why there is a 1k price difference between the ASUS and Sapphire GFX card.

The only difference is low memory lock of sapphire card.

I really haven’t forgotten it. Since I will be buying the PSU online, I can order it a while later if needed.

I am going to Chennai in 2 days and going to pickup the stuff from Delta Peripherals. That’s why I wanted to get done with this first.

Wow. THe price of HD6770 is way to high :open_mouth: Add a ~1k more and you can get a HD6850.

I’m not taking in account the 1st 5 PCMark tests in account coz nobody buys a PC to benchmark - right??!

The Phenom II X4 955 beats i3 2100 in 15 out of 21 productivity & rendering tests. (i3 2100 beats it in 6 tests only)

In the 4 gaming tests -

In 2 tests Core i3 & 955 Tie. In 2 tests Core i3 beats 955. Although in 3 tests we are talking 60+ fps and your monitor will have

a refresh rate of 60Hz so anything above 60fps from ur system going to waste. So I’d say both CPU’s perform pretty much the same

on this front.

Overall AMD system seems to be a better buy for you - **Also The 955 is a Black Edition and your motherboard will be capable of

automatically overclocking it to a decent 3.5-3.6 Ghz.** Once you do that you’ll have even more performance from it.

On the Intel system you can kiss overclocking goodbye. What performance you have you have that only.

so for an extra 10k on base computers cost you’ll have eyefinity also!! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

^^ Sire the AMD processor hogs power + OP doesn’t seem to be keen on over-clocking so going the AMD way, seriously at this point is hopeless, also the AM3 chipset(s) are all E.o.L and the latest FX-series processors [AM3+ chipset] have bombed in the performance department majorly, so AMD right now is simply not worth it.

Intel Quick Sync / CLear Video set-up makes encoding videos a painless process for the CPU off-loading all these tasks on the IGP on die, which surprisingly performs very well – Intel® Quick Sync Video / Intel® Clear Video HD Technology / Intel Quick Sync Video - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Also the HD 6770 is a refined HD 5770 architecture, why pay more just to get eyeFinity support, which doesn’t need to be added to the mix, also the HD 5770 barely manages to pull games @full HD + medium settings, what joy will it be to play a game on three screens [OR more] if the graphics card cannot give you a decent experience on a single screen, on current generation games [like the Witcher 2, Cryostasis].

I’m not saying you are wrong, but frankly Intel currently has a stranglehold on the market in performance and price.

How are you suggesting an AMD motherboard with an Intel processor, the board I’ll suggest for this RIG will be –

Intel DH67-BL ~ 5200/-.

As for the graphics card, your prices are way off, in that price line you can get a HD 6770, which even after it is the same chip, performs ~10% better on a average.
