My Ont not working in my network but works at frnds home, his ont works at my network

Basically my syrotech ont is not working in my network. The pos light keeps on blinking red. So my isp gave me his ont and took my ont for testing. Mine is working at his home and his ont is working in my home but still my ont is not working in my network. What could be the reason?

I don’t think based on your info even God knows why it isn’t working.

Clean your fiber connectors.

Sorry about that. Can you point on what details should i share?

What we have tried :

Fibre cleaning,That small box cleaned, connection strength checked( falls in the correct range), reconfigured my ont

What’s happening:

When my ont is connected in my network, PON is blinking in red. My ont is working in my isp home but not in my home . My isp ont is also working when connected in my home .

Could it be mac address blocked?

Tried that. Didn’t work

It’s likely related to the fiber connector, the pon led blinks red even when you have no connector.

So it’s probably not related to your account or device id or mac address or anything software related.

If the connectors are clean on both sides, then it’s an alignment mismatch between those two specific connectors (cable and device).

You could try replacing the fiber cable itself, maybe a different cable will fit better.

It was working properly and suddenly stopped. Still by isp router is working. doesn’t that rule out connection issue ?

It does rule out alignment mismatch that’s for sure. Have you tried resetting the ONT and re-configuring?

Is the networking gear you are using same as that of the friend ? I mean switches devices etc. Try to limit the variables and see.

Yes tried it. Didn’t work

Mine is syrotech, it was working properly for 3 years on my network and still works in my isp home.My isp ont is genexis

Does the same led blink red when there’s no fiber connected?

If you’re able to measure signal strength at both locations and they’re different, then you can probably theorize that it might be unique combination of firmware and hardware where your ont needs a certain signal strength that’s no longer available at your location while the other ont (even though it’s the same model, it could be a different firmware or hardware revision) has less stringent requirements.

In my experience with fiber, there’s no advanced logic or complex variables with a blinking red pon led, it’s always a connection issue.

But I haven’t used the brand you mentioned, just Huawei and Nokia, both with Airtel.

Wait, clarify something here.

Your syrotech works at another location but not yours. yes?

The genesis works in both locations, yes?

It’s just these two ont’s that you’re talking about? There’s not a third ont or two syrotechs or something?

One syrotech and one genesis?

There is a high possibility of configuration issues at your ISP end then.

Could you rule out one more thing - The signal strength of the fiber cable - You can check on the ONTs with the same fiber cables on your network and of the ISP. This will rule out the possibility of power issues.

Yes two modems. Syrotech (mine), genesis(isp’s).

Genesis works in my home, syrotech doesn’t work in my home. Syrotech works in my isp’s home

Checked signal strength at my end and it was within the recommended range

What is “my isp’s home” ? You mean your friend’s home.

isp(frnd) took my modem for testing and said it worked in his home

Why are you calling your friend “isp”? You mean your friend is also the local ISP operator in which case his home has ISP equipment through which the net service is provided? If yes then you cannot compare his home setup to yours because yours is typical home user setup.
