I have been receiving multiple msgs in the last 2-3 days about random finance institutes checking my cibil score and report. I have not applied for any loan in the last 6 months or made any kind of enquiry anywhere. I started 3 days back and yesterday itself I received about 10-11 official looking texts from cibil saying xyz company checked your cibil. Is this a sign of fraud being done ? I am terrified about my cibil going down.
VD/JD/JX-CIBILA-S is the header i am receiving these alerts from.
I have not opted for any plans from CIBIL and therefore I should not be receiving alerts about enquries from cibil at all since this is a paid feature available only with 6 months plan.
I got a few emails from noreply@cibilenqalert.transunion.com over the last 2-3 months not as many and not as often - PEL / BajajFinance/HDFC. No sms, dunno how this works.
Seems like anyone can enquire through PAN card without verification.
PEL was a house loan application apparently. I asked them whats happening, and dumb PEL reply was to share KYC data.
Got another dumb reply. These people can send mails but to reply they need data. What a joke.
Thank you for writing to TransUnion CIBIL.

And that is why everyone should get a cibil paid yearly plan which costs just 1200 considering how much it can help in cases like these. If OP had such a plan then he would know for sure within a few minutes if those msgs were genuine or not.
I took the yearly free cibil report and checked recent enquiries and none of these enquiries appeared there. I am going to take the 6 months plan today and monitor over the next week.
Just fyi, for many countries visa application the cibil/credit report is also checked. Having a paid cibil plan gives you real time updates & a more simpler method to raise disputes with financial institutions/banks.
While it is a good practice, it is not necessary to subscribe if you want to file a complaint of this nature. You get notification if a search is done and you can raise a dispute if you think it was done without consent. They are required to do their due investigation for all disputes.
I am speaking from practical experience. What you say also work but takes longer & more hassle compared to filing complaint as a paid cibil plan member. If someone doesn’t mind the extra few days/week & more hassle then free cibil plan works too.
You seem to be implying that going paid gives priority on disputes like this ? That should not happen as it’s a legal requirement. If that is happening then it’s wrong and can be legally contested.
I am referring to the SMS alerts that CIBIL sends out whenever a financial institution does an enquiry against your PAN. CIBIL is not at fault here, rather the institution doing these enquiries.
